The present invention relates to a composition which is for preventing, ameliorating, or treating andropause, and comprises a vitex trifolia extract as an active ingredient. The vitex trifolia extract, which is the active ingredient of the present invention, has almost no cytotoxicity, and has a cytoprotective activity on damaged sex hormone-secreting cells. Moreover, the vitex trifolia extract has the effects of: increasing the content of testosterone; increasing the expression of 17β-HSD in male hormone-secreting cells; reducing cholesterol and blood glucose; increasing the weight of the vastus lateralis (VL); reducing the weight of fat in the epididyma fat (EF) portion of visceral fat; reducing the weight of fat in the mescentric fat (MF) portion and the weight of fat in the abdominal subcutaneous fat (ASF) portion; decreasing immobility behavior time and increasing swimming behavior time and climbing behavior time in the forced swimming test (FST); and also increasing sperm count and sperm activity. Thus, the composition according to the present invention can be used as a health functional food or medicine for preventing, ameliorating, or treating andropause.
