The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and to a health food composition for preventing and treating thyroid disease, the composition containing Maackia amurensis (Maackia amurensis Rupr.) extract and a fraction thereof. More specifically, it has been confirmed that the Maackia amurensis extract, fraction thereof or tectoridin exhibit not only an oestrogen-like action on oestrogen receptors but also an action on thyroid hormone receptors, and thus it has been confirmed that the Maackia amurensis extract, the fraction thereof or the tectoridin can advantageously be used as a composition for preventing and treating thyroid disease.
