Abstract:
Provided herein is formulations, systems and methods in which one or more compounds that inhibit AP2M1interaction with a protein motif utilized for trafficking of a viral protein are used to treat a broad range of viral infections. An example of such a compound is N- (p-amylcinnamoyl) anthranilic acid (ACA). Viral infections that are suited to such an approach include those caused by RNA viruses in which virally encoded proteins utilized for transport of viral RNA into the cell nucleus include a YxxØ motif, wherein Ø represents an amino acid with a bulky hydrophobic side chain and x can be any amino acid. Examples of suitable viruses include various strains of influenza virus and coronavirus (e.g. SARS-CoV-2).
