Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1999/040818
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The thirteen connectors, Dr.1A, Dr.2A, Dr.3A, Dr.4A, Dr.5A, Dr.6A, Dr.7A, Dr.8A, Dr.9A, Dr.10A, Dr.11A, Dr.12A, Dr.13A, (presentation in their cross section) and Dr.3, Dr.4 (perspective presentation of a part of 2 connectors) constitute a method for connection of plane surfaces and construction of different furniture by assembly. Indicatively drawings from 52 up to 56. All the connectors have the same and corresponding technical data and all are different each other regarding the shape and the number of plane surfaces connected by them. The invention eliminates the position definition for the plane surfaces and permits their use without any constraint as vertical or horizontal elements for the construction of any furniture and allows their transformation at any time as well as the change (modification) of their use. With this invention it is provided the possibility to the purchaser to define himself the dimensions, the shape and the use of each furniture and to modify them, according his new needs or for appearance reasons, changing even the shape of the angles of the connectors.

Description:
CONNECTORS OF PLANE SURFACES SUITABLE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF FURNITURE BY ASSEMBLY The invention refers to thirteen (13) connectors according to the drawings 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A (presentation of their cross section) 5A, 6A, 7A, 8A, 9A, 10A, 11A, 12A, 13A, and 3,4 (perspective presentation of a part of the length of two connectors drawings 1A and 6A) which all together constiture a Method of connection of plane rectangular surfaces drawings 7,8 and a Method of construction of different furniture by assembly.

From the variety of products, the construction of which is possible by use of the present invention, indicatively are referred the following: Bookcases, composite furnitures, kitchen furnitures, office furnitures, childrenroom furnitures, wardroke furnitures and furnitures for other use, furnitures for installation of audio-visual devices, shelves for shops, showcases for goods, shelves for storage and many other furnitures. A comparison with similar products which are constructed also by assembly, shows that these present common constructional as well as functional weaknesses.

These weaknesses are result of the fact, that the different methods of connection of surfaces as well the different connection accessories of them, which are used for all the methods, for every shape and use furniture, which is produced by them, presuppose the use of surfaces, which have been subject previously, each of them, to a certain treatment, according the position, which is foressen to be for the furniture as well as for the needs, which are specified to be covered by it.

These constraints for the construction of each furniture, define in parallel and reduce the possibility of use of the surfaces, making impossible their use for the construction of other furnitures with other shapes, dimensions, appearance as well as the change of the use of each furniture, in order to service different needs from those which is intended to serve.

A reference to two furnitures constructed according the above described presuppositions is included in drawings 50, A and B, specifies exactly these weaknesses.

The furnitures A and B, independently of their construction method and the accessories used for the connection of their plane surfaces, have the following technical data.

All the vertical and horizontal surfaces of the furniture A as well as of the furniture B, have been subject to a suitable treatment in one side of them and at specific positions, for the installation of the connecting accessories.

Two of the vertical surfaces of the furniture A have been subject also in another position to an additional special treatment, which is requested for the connection to them of the steady hinges which support the doors of the case, because from the beginning it was specified the furniture A shall have a case located in this position.

For this reason no one horizontal surface of the furniture can be used during its assembly as vertical and vice versa, as well as for the furniture B.

No-one of the vertical surfaces of the furniture B is possible to be used as a vertical one for the construction of the furniture A, as well as no-one vertical surface of the furniture A can be used for the construction of the furniture B as horizontal one.

It is not possible the assembly of the case to another position.

It is not possible the realisation of any and in any direction future extension, of the furniture A as well as of the furniture B.

It is not possible the use of the surfaces of the furniture A and B together as well as the construction by them of another furniture with different Shape, Dimensions, Use and Appearance.

The peaks of the corners of furnitures A and B cannot have a shape different from that formate by the connection positions of the vertical with the horizontal surfaces and cannot be changed in the future.

The above facts make clear and prove that: for the construction of the furnitures A and B, have been specified from the beginning their Dimensions, their Shape, their Use and their Appearance. The different methods and accessories used for the assembly, have not any possibility to contribute even to a partial change of these data.

In parallel, it is clear that this defect of the method and connection accessories, is the reason, making necessary the existence of constraints for the assembly of their surfaces.

An example with exactly the same furnitures A and B and under the presupposition that these shall be constructed with the Connectors of the invention, shows following possibilities: The furniture B may be assembled also in another shape See Dr. 51, B1.

The furniture A, may be assembled in six different alternative shapes, Dr. 51, A1- A2-A3 (three alternatives) and three alternatives, seating on its side a-a.

Both furnitures A and B maybe connected in order to create another furniture with more than twenty eight (28) selection alternatives for the shape of the furniture, Dr. 52 up to Dr. 65, with more than twenty two alternatives for its dimensions and many options for the position of the case and/or the change of its use such as the installation of drawers indicatively Dr. 64 and Dr. 65.

In addition it is found that in certain shapes, Dr. 56, B, Dr. 60, A and B, Dr. 61, B and Dr. 63, D it is achieved the increase of useful space of the new furniture in comparison with the space of both furnitures A and B together.

In each one of twenty eight (28) shapes, which can have the new furniture, it is provided by the Connectors also three (3) alternative selection possibilities for the shape, which may have the peaks of its corners, i. e. three different additional alternatives regarding its appearance.

The above mentioned constructional and functional possibilities of the connectors to connect plane surfaces and to assembly furniture without imposed constraints and definitions for the position, the use and the shape of each product and simultaneously to provide the possibility for their transformation, are the advantages provided by the Connectors of this invention as a Method of connection of plane surfaces and construction of furnitures by Assembly.

In addition to the above and as subsequent advantages are underligned also the following: The non existence of cost for the special treatment of plane surfaces, requested by the other methods.

The reduction of time for connection of plane surfaces and assembly of any product, the reduction to the half of the time requested for the assembly of a similar one with other methods and accessories.

The reduced cost up to 50% which is requested for the extension of a part of a furniture, in comparison with the initial cost of the respective part, which is been extended Dr. 66a, b.

The reduced cost of packing and transportation of the products, which are handled as a plane surfaces, connectors and accessories. Also for the same reason, it is referred the saving of their storage area.

At the end the advantage that all the above i. e.: the connection of plane surfaces by the Connectors and the Assembly of any furniture, its extension, the change of its use, by installation for example at the position of the case of the drawers, the removal from the furniture of plane surfaces or Connectors and the construction with these of another fumiture (s), the change of the Connectors for Appearance reasons as well as for the same reason also the change of the shape of plane surfaces Dr. 7 and Dr. 8, are carried out at any moment and in minimum time, from any-boby-even from a child-without to possess any"technical talent".

The only requested presupposition is to have as technical equipment, two (2) screwdrivers.

The Connectors Before referring the way of the use of the Connectors, their function and cooperation with the plane surfaces and with all their accessories, a reference to their technical data and their relations between them, make clear and understandable the structure and the function of the connection and Assembly Method of furnitures, created by them.

The features of the thirteen Connectors of this invention are the following: Each Connector, as an independent abject from the other twelve Connectors, is different with each one of them-and all together between them-regarding the shape and the number of the plane surfaces connected by them, in relation with the number of plane surfaces which are connected by certain connectors and in parallel each Connector, has the same and corresponding technical data with each one of the twelve Connectors, and all the connectors the same technical date between them.

The similar technical data of the Connectors, with reference in Connector of the Dr. 1A are the following:

The overall dimensions of the surface of the Connector, are defined at points of a circle circumference, Dr. 1, OA, with its center at the center of the Connector. The sides of the angles of the Connector Dr. 1, AB-BF, AE-EZ, HO-01, KA-AM are defined at a <BR> <BR> position parallel to two diameters A'and A"-A"perpendicular each other and at a same distance from them.

With the above definitions and following geometrical postulates: The angles of the Connector Dr. lA are ninety degrees.

Each angle has equal sides.

Its four angles have the same length.

The ends of the sides of the angles A, r, A, Z, H, I, K, M, Dr. l, are situated at positions corresponding between them.

The sides of the angles, in their relation with their adjacent sides, are parallel each other Dr. 1, MA to AB, FA to AE, ZE to HO, 10 to KA.

The parts of the surfaces of the Connector, defined between its sides and the adjacent of its angles, are equal Dr. 1, AM=rA=ZH=IK.

The parts of the surface of the Connector, defined between the circumference OA, Dr. 1 and the one having the same center OB, at the points, where OB cuts the sides and the adjacent sides of the angles, have a formation, absolutely the same in all aspects- shape, Dimensions, Correspondence, Dr. 1A.

The Connector has eight (8) holes of the same diameter, the centers of which are situated on a circuference or with the same center, Dr. l and at points corresponding between them.

The above technical data of the Connector Dr. lA have all the other twelve Connectors and each one separately and according the shape of its surface and in correspondence with the technical data of the part of the surface of the Connector Dr. lA corresponding to it.

The discrepancies between the Connectors, referring to the shape of the peak of their angles, with reference to the Connector Dr. 6A are defined as follows: While the sides and the adjacent sides of the angles of the Connector Dr. lA, form their peak at the point where are met and cut between them, the sides of the angles of the connector Dr. 6A, from the points where they are cut from the circumference OB, having

the same center, Dr. l, continue to be extended to the peak of the angles, approaching each other and they are met, forming a quarter of circumference of a circle, Dr. 6A.

All above, similar and diffenent between them, concerning the structure of the Connectors, Dr. lA and Dr. 6A, characterise also the remaining eleven Connectors, making clear that: Each one of the eleven Connectors, Dr. 2A, Dr. 3A, Dr. 4A, Dr. 5A, Dr. 7A, Dr. 8A, Dr. 9A, Dr. lOA, Dr. 11A, Dr. l2A, Dr. l3A" corresponds fully with a part, either of the Connector of Dr. lA or the Connectors of Dr. 6A or with a part of both and all the Connectors corresponding with a part either of Connector of Dr. 1A or the Connector of Dr. 6A or a part of both, correspond accordingly also between them.

The number the plane surfaces connected by each Connector is dependent of the number of formations which have, between the sides and the adjacent sides of its angles.

The Connectors Dr. lA, Dr. 2A, Dr. 3A, Dr. 4A, Dr. 5A, Dr. 6A, connect four plane surfaces each.

The Connectors Dr. 7A, Dr. 8A, Dr. 9A, Dr. 10A, connect three plane surfaces each.

The Connectors Dr. 11A, Dr. 12A, Dr. 13A, connect two plane surfaces each.

All Connectors, at the sides and the adjacent sides of their angles and at positions corresponding between them, have holes of the same diameter, which indicatively are presented at one part of the connector, in Dr. 3,0 Dr. 4,0 Dr. 10,0 and Dr. 39,0.

The length of the Connectors corresponds to the width of the plane surfaces connected by them.

The Connectors are made from aluminum, bronze and other material such as for example non flexible polyamides and are produced by extruder.

The rectangular plane surfaces, Dr. 7, Dr. 8,30 (plan view) and Dr. 9A, B (longitudinal section), which are connected by the connectors, have the following technical characteristics.

The plane surfaces have the same thickness.

Their thickness is equal with the distance defined between the sides and the adjacent sides of the angles of the Connectors, Dr. 10 AA=A'A'.

All the plane surfaces Dr. 5 and Dr. 6 at their opposite surfaces and in parallel with the end points of their width have formation similar in all aspects between them and corresponding Dr. 5 ABrA=A'BT as well as Dr. 6 ABrA=A'B'r'A'.

The shape and the dimensions of the formation of the plane surfaces, corresponds with the formation which have the Connectors between the sides and the adjacent sides of their angles and fits to it in relation"male-female"Dr. 10 ABFA to A'B'r'A', permitting their insertion at the formations of the Connectors in draw-in mode only.

The plane surfaces have in their formations holes with equal diameter and their centers at points corresponding with the centers of the holes which have the Connectors at the sides of their angles, Dr. 3,0, and Dr. 4,0.

The Connection of the plane surfaces from-and with the Connectors and the simultaneous assembly of each product, is carried out by the insertion of the formations, which have the plane surfaces, in to the corresponding-and fitting-formations of the Connectors, Dr. 10, only by draw-in.

After completion of the insertion of the plane surface to the Connectors, which defines simultaneously and the coincidence of their corresponding holes, are installed in the holes pin-screws, Dr. 17II and are tighten.

In this way and in order to carry out the construction of a furniture, similar to that taken as an example-in reference to Dr. 70 the procedure is the following: The assembly starts by insertion-"by draw-in"-of the"seating plates"Dr. 39, fI and Dr. 70, n in the formations of the Connectors situated on the floor.

It follows the"draw-in"to the Connectors, of the plane surfaces, which define the length of the furniture and constitute its"horizontal"surfaces El and E2 and it continues by"draw-in"of the vertical plane surfaces E3, E4, E5 to the formations of the Connectors.

The procedure continues by"draw-in"of the Connectors to the formations of the "vertical surfaces"E3 E4, Es, and follows the"draw-in"of the"horizontal"surfaces E6, and E7 to the formations of the Connectors and it follows the"draw-in"of the vertical surfaces Eg and Eg to the Connectors which follows the"draw-in"of the Connectors to the"vertical surfaces"E8 and E9 and it is completed by the draw-in of the"horizontal" surface Elo to the Connectors.

Simultaneously are installed in the holes the pins-screws which tighten the Connectors with the plane surfaces Dr. 17il.

With the completion of the assembly of the furniture are installed also the"covers" on the surfaces of the Connectors.

In Dr. 70a the"verticales"E8, E9, which are presented at the position of the corresponding ones Es and Eg of the Dr. 70, are different regarding the shape and are used to cover the references for the change of appearance of the furniture, which is carried out by the change of the shape of the plane surfaces.

For the construction of each case with doors, which open by hinges, as well as the installation of drawers or the installation of shelves inside the case, these are carried out by"Guides"Dr. 30, A-B and the suitable accessories for this purpose. The"Guides" similar between them in all aspects, make possible the fulfillment of the following functional needs which are: To be connected with them the"half'hinge Dr. 30, M which constitutes the steady one, on which is displaced the other"half'hinge connected with the door.

To connect with them, the accessories-guides, on which slide-draw-the drawers Dr. 30, E.

To install on them and to be supported by them, the accessories, on which are seated the internal shelves Dr. 30, P and also to be connected by them other accessories for serving other needs, such as the accessory Dr. 3 1, by which it is supported the pipe in wardrobes, on which are hang the hangers of clothes.

The procedure for the performance of above is the following: With the Connectors and the"vertical"-plane surfaces, are connected together also the"Guides"Dr. 30 A-B from their corresponding holes, Dr. 30,01 and 68, A-B.

If we have a case where the doors open by hinges Dr. 30, M, these are installed on the"Guides"with the surface of which fit and enclose and by coincidence of the hole which they have M, 02 with the holes of the"Guides"02, they are screwed on them.

The same procedure is followed in order to be connected with the"Guides"also the accessories-guides on which they are drawn the drawers Dr. 30, E.

In order to be installed shelves inside the case the accessories on which they are seated the shelves Dr. 30, P are installed and supported from the"Guides"by insertion of the projections they have, Dr. 30, P3, into the holes of the"Guides"Dr. 30, OZ.

The covering-closing of the back empty surface of a case, or an empty part, is carried out by plane surfaces Dr. 41 and 42, as follows: The covering surfaces, have a common thickness.

The dimensions correspond to the dimensions of the empty surface covered by them, plus the thickness of one vertical and one horizontal plane surface, fron the four, which define-each empty space.

Each covering surface, have twelve holes Dr. 42, eight of which Dr. 41,08 have equal diameter between them, which is the same with the diameter of the holes, which have the Connectors on the circumference or, Dr. l.

Each one from the eight holes of the covering surface, correspond with two holes of each Connector-from the four Connectors-which assembly and define each empty space, Dr. 42,08.

The connection of covering surface with the case, is carried out by pins, which going through the holes 08, are inserted to the holes of the connectors Dr. 41, fI, 08. The other four holes, Dr. 41,04 and Dr. 42,04 serve the hanging of the furnitures on the walls, which is carried out by the following procedure.

In order to be hung from the wall for example a case of a kitchen, together with the Connectors and the Horizontal Plane Surfaces at the inside and back part of the furniture, are connected accessories Dr. 34, A through their hole, 01.

Through the second hole Dr. 34,02, which corresponds with each one of the four holes of the covering surface Dr. 42,04 are passing the screws and are screwed in the corresponding holes which have been drilled on the wall.

The"Covers"Dr. lK, Dr. 2K, Dr. 3K, Dr. 4K, Dr. 5K, Dr. 6K, Dr. 7K, Dr. 8K- A, Dr. 8K-B, Dr. 8K-r, A and B, Dr. 9K, Dr. lOK, Dr. llK, Dr. 12K, Dr. 13K which are used for covering of the surfaces of the Connectors, have the following technical data.

The"Covers"are plane surfaces with equal thickness.

Each"Cover"has a shape absolutely similar and corresponding with the shape of the surface of only one Connector.

Each"Cover"at one surface and at positions corresponding with the holes of the Connectors, has as many projections as the holes of the Connector covered by it Dr. 14K, A and B (side view).

The projections at all"Covers"have the same common diameter, which is the same as the diameter of the holes of the Connectors.

For covering the surface of the Connector Dr. 18A are used two"Covers"which have the projections at opposite surface Dr. 8K-A, Dr. 8K-B, and Dr. 8K-r, A and B.

The covering of the surfaces by"Covers", is carried out by insertion of their projections into the holes of the Connectors.

Drawings 1X through 10X present various pieces of furniture and setups using these patented connectors, to fulfill a wide range of requirements.

Drawing 10X illustrates a false-celling construction.
