Conventional switches for detecting operation of a door handle include a contact type and a capacitance type, and they have problems such as a contact failure due to aging and a malfunction due to rain, and in addition, they have inferiority in multifunctionality required for other applications. A contact detection device of the invention has a support means (8) having a movable section displaced when subjected to contact; a cable-like piezoelectric sensor (4) supported at a part by the support means (8) and deformed in association with displacement of the movable section (8c); and a signal processing means for processing an output signal of the cable-like piezoelectric sensor (4). The cable-like piezoelectric sensor (4) has a bend (4a) to form simultaneously deforming sections, and contact is detected when the simultaneously deforming sections are deformed in operative association with the movable section (8c).
