Abstract:
The present invention pertains to a control device for an internal combustion engine and effectively improves the operating precision of a compression release brake at low temperatures. This control device for an internal combustion engine (10) capable of compression release breaking in which an exhaust valve (19) is opened and closed during a compression stroke is provided with the following: a compression-release-brake mechanism (30) that operates the compression release brake by using the pressure of a hydraulic fluid to open and close the exhaust valve (19); an oil-temperature sensor (26) that detects the temperature of the hydraulic fluid; and a compression-release-brake control unit (82) that controls the operation of the compression release brake by the compression-release-brake mechanism (30). If the temperature detected by the oil-temperature sensor (26) is less than a prescribed lower limit, the compression-release-brake control unit (82) stops the compression-release-brake mechanism (30) from operating the compression release brake.
