Abstract:
This internal combustion engine control device and catalyst deterioration diagnosis method: control the amount of fuel supplied to an internal combustion engine such that the air/fuel ratio for exhaust downstream from an exhaust purification catalyst switches alternates between rich and lean; measure the oxygen storage capacity of the exhaust purification catalyst during a measurement period within the reverse cycle for the air/fuel ratio; and diagnose deterioration in the exhaust purification catalyst on the basis of the measurement results for the oxygen storage capacity. The point at which an exhaust sensor output indicates that the air/fuel ratio for exhaust gas downstream from the exhaust purification catalyst has started to switch to either rich or lean, from the vicinity of a stoichiometric air/fuel ratio, is deemed to be the measurement period for the oxygen storage capacity. As a result, the oxygen storage capacity can be easily measured while suppressing the effect of exhaust sensor response times.
