Abstract:
A control device and a control method for a variable valve timing device according to the present invention interpolate an absolute angle of a rotation phase found on the basis of a rotation angle signal of a crankshaft and a rotation angle signal of a camshaft, the interpolation being executed on the basis of a change amount of a rotation phase found on the basis of a drive current of a motor. On the basis of a deviation between the absolute angle at a time when the absolute angle is updated and an estimated angle obtained by the interpolation, the estimation of the change amount of the rotation phase, which is based on the drive current of the motor, is revised during a period until the absolute angle is next updated. In this way, overshooting and undershooting of the valve timing control are suppressed.
