Abstract:

Information pertaining to the sound of a question and information pertaining to the sound of a response to the question are received. On the basis of the received information, an analysis unit (106) acquires a representative pitch of the question (e.g., the pitch of the ending), and a representative pitch of the response (e.g., the average pitch). On the basis of a comparison of the representative pitch of the question and the representative pitch of the response, an evaluation unit (110) evaluates the sound of the response to the question. The evaluation unit evaluates the response to the question according to the extent of separation of the difference (interval) between the representative pitches of the question and the response, from a prescribed reference value (e.g., a consonance interval of a fifth or less). Optionally, a conversation pause detection unit (109) for detecting a pause in conversation, i.e., the time from the end of the question to the start of the response, is further provided. The evaluation unit would then further evaluate the response to the question on the basis of the detected pause in conversation. In this manner, non-verbal characteristics (the nature of the impression created by the response) of a response to a question can be evaluated objectively.
