Abstract:
The present invention pertains to the field of thermal devices used for converting the combustion energy of gaseous-phase hydrocarbons into infrared-radiation energy. This invention essentially relates to a converter comprising an assembly having a three-dimensional open porosity that defines through-channels made of fibers that form a whole and are made of a refractory heat-resistant material. This material has catalytic properties that intensify the physical and chemical processes of gaseous-phase oxide reduction and hydrocarbon oxidation. The fibers have a profiled cross section and are arranged into layers according to a freely-supported fixed beam pattern. The fibers in each layer are arranged at random and have a space turning angle of 0.15 to 90°. The inter-axis distance between adjacent fibers does not exceed 50 to 150 times their maximal transverse dimension. The diameter of the efficient cross section in each through-channel ranges from 0.5 to 20 times the maximal transverse dimension of the fibers. The minimal thickness of the assembly represents from 0.5 to 2.0 times the length of a fiber, and the active working surface of said assembly represents from 0.89 to 0.99 time the global surface of all the fibers.
