Abstract:
A cooler (28) for a power module (10) is formed by combining aluminum members (42,
44, 46, 48, 50) and has inside a casing (40) with a water path for cooling water.
The construction enables the cooler (28) to be produced at a low material cost.
Further, because the aluminum members can be easily processed, the cooling
water path can be formed in a complex shape with depressions and protrusions having
excellent heat radiation properties, and as a result, the cooling water path
having high heat radiation properties can be constructed inside the casing (40).
Also, the rigidity of a top plate (42) of a relatively small thickness is intentionally
set low, with the rigidity required for the casing (40) sufficiently satisfied
by a bottom plate (44) of relatively large thickness. Thus, the construction
allows the top plate (42) to actively deform to release stress occurring in a joint
face between the cooler (28) and an insulation base plate (18).
