Abstract:
Provided is a cooling system capable of effectively cooling nuclear fuel stored in a pool and capable of controlling the decrease in the water level due to evaporation. A cooling system for stored nuclear fuel that cools nuclear fuel (3) stored by submerging in a cooling liquid (4) to the bottom of a pool (2), wherein: a top layer formed on the liquid surface (as) side by a low density cooling liquid (4), a bottom layer formed on the bottom of the pool (2) by a cooling liquid (4) having a density higher than the top layer cooling liquid (4), and an intermediate layer formed between the top layer and the bottom layer by a cooling liquid (4) having a density between the density of the top layer cooling liquid (4) and the density of the bottom layer cooling liquid (4) are provided inside the pool (2); a lower end (5a) of a heat pipe (5) that performs heat transfer, as the latent heat of a working fluid, is disposed in a location that exchanges heat with the bottom layer cooling liquid (4), and the upper end (5b) of the heat pipe (5) is exposed to the atmosphere; and the nuclear fuel (3) is submerged in the bottom layer.
