Description:
CORSAGE HOLDER

THIS INVENTION relates to a novel flowerglass, that is, a smal container suitable for fixing.to an article of clothing for th purpose of holding one or more flowers.

As is well known, plant life, particularly flowers, deteriorates rapidly after cutting and the use of domestic vases to hold water in order to maintain the freshness of flowers on display is well known. However, the display of a bloom on one's person is usually limited to the time which the bloom remains fresh and attractive. In normal circumstances the flower concerned is merely pinned to the upper region of the article of clothing being worn and discarded after a very limited period, typically two or three hours.

An attempt has been made to keep flowers fresh in such situations by the provisions of a small conical metal holder that may be affixed to clothing, however such articles have been open at the bottom and incapable of holding water.

In another variation of the prior art, a short glass vase the shape of a teardrop has been known. To such a container was rigidly affixed a pin to allow the article to be fixedly attached to an item of outerwear. Whilst nutrient liquid could be used in this latter article, its use fell into disfavour as liquid was prone to spill from the article during normal social activities, causing undesirable stains and embarrassment. Further, the item could not properly secure the flower inserted in such containers.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a flowerglass which substantially overcomes the foregoing disadvantages .

In accordance with the present invention therefore there is provided a flowerglass comprising a tube closed at one end thereof the lower portion of which is of a reduced diameter so as to form a bulb at the closed end thereof, the other end being provided with a clip adapted to attach the tube to an f«Oβ ** ?"*.« 1 τ ! ii- c,_}__.-_:"

article of cothing such that the tube may pivot under the influence of gravity.

A preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the flowerglass,

Figure 2 is a plan view.

Figure 3 is an underneath view.

Figure 4 is a side elevation.

Figure 5 is a front elevation, and Figure 6 is a rear elevation.

In this preferred embodiment there is provided a glass tube shown generally at 10 having an open mouth 11 and a stem 12. Towards the lower end of the tube is provided a constriction 13 therein to form the closed end into a bulb 14. Adjacent the neck 15 of the tube is provided a known brooch clip 16 adapted to secure the other end of the tube to an article of clothing (not shown). The configuration of the tube is such that it may be half filled with water and, on insertion of one or more long-stemmed flower blooms, will secure such blooms in a nutritious and stable environment. The person wearing the article the subject of the invention can therefore expect an enhanced life of flower blooms placed in the flowerglass the subject of the invention.

A distinct feature of the invention is that should the person wearing the flowerglass on her lapel lean forward, the inventive configuration of the container allows the container to swing in a pendulum like fashion to remain upright, thus retaining its contents and avoiding spillage.

In the preferred embodiment illustrated, the neck of the container is provided with a decorative frill, however it is to be appreciated that the frill per se is not essential to the inventive concept thereof.
