A cutting machine (1) cuts out a plurality of standard-sized cutouts by repeating a process of conveying a long workpiece (W) in a prescribed direction by a prescribed distance and then cutting the workpiece (W). A cutting part (12) cuts the workpiece (W) at a prescribed position. A remaining length detection unit (42) detects the remaining length of the workpiece (W) after the workpiece (W) is cut. When the detected remaining length of the workpiece (W) is longer than or equal to a length obtained by adding, to a cutout length, a first excess length which is shorter than the cutout length, a conveyance vise (21A, 21B) conveys the workpiece (W), by the cutout length, in the direction of an end portion of the workpiece (W) at which the workpiece (W) is to be cut. When the detected remaining length of the workpiece (W) is shorter than the length obtained by adding the first excess length to the cutout length and is longer than or equal to a length obtained by adding, to the cutout length, a second excess length which is shorter than the first excess length, the conveyance vise (21A, 21B) conveys the workpiece (W) in the direction of the end portion to be cut by a length obtained by subtracting the cutout length from the remaining length.
