Abstract:
A cutting tool includes a rake face, a flank face, and a cutting edge part, wherein the cutting tool is provided with a substrate and an AlTiN layer. The AlTiN layer includes cubic AlxTi1-xN crystal grains, where an atomic ratio x of Al ranges from 0.7 to less than 0.95. The AlTiN layer includes a central part, and, in a color map, generated on the basis of a crystal orientation of the AlxTi1-xN crystal grains identified via electron backscatter diffraction analysis on a cross section of the AlTiN layer sectioned along a plane including a normal line to the rake face and a normal line to the flank face, a proportion of an area of the central part at the rake face with (111) plane orientated crystal grains ranges from 50% to less than 80%, and a proportion of an area of the central part at the cutting edge part with (111) plane orientated crystal grains is 80% or greater.
