Abstract:
The objective of the invention is to provide a cyclic olefin copolymer production method capable of producing a cyclic olefin copolymer having a low glass transition temperature (Tg) and excellent processability, while suppressing the generation of polyethylene-like impurities even when polymerizing monomers comprising norbornene monomers and ethylene under a high ethylene loading pressure condition wherein the polyethylene-like impurities are generated readily. In this method, when polymerizing monomers comprising norbornene monomers and ethylene in the presence of a metallocene catalyst at an ethylene loading pressure of 0.5 MPa or higher, a metallocene catalyst is used, comprising a ligand containing a cyclopentadiene ring, and a structure wherein a heteroatom, which is N, O, S, or P, is bound to a transition metal from group IV of the periodic table and to an sp2 carbon.
