Abstract:
The present invention relates to a cap assembly mounted on the upper end of a battery can for a cylindrical secondary battery, the cap assembly comprising: a top cap having an outwardly protruding positive electrode terminal at the top thereof; a safety vent electrically connected to the top cap via a safety element at the lower end of the top cap and discharging gas; and a current interrupt device connected to the safety vent at a part of the upper surface thereof and to an electrode lead of an electrode assembly at a part of the lower surface thereof, and interrupting a flow of an electric current upon generation of a high pressure in a battery, wherein the safety vent and the current interrupt device are mutually coupled by an electrical insulating material at the contact interface therebetween.
