Abstract:
Monitoring activity in a remote location is realized by using existing communication networks to minimize a capital investment and enabling the communication of diverse commands or data. When a predetermined state around a monitoring device (10) located in a remote location is detected, a telephone communication circuit (34) of the monitoring device originates a call to a portable terminal (20) by using a portable telephone network (14) and opens an audio communication line using the telephone network between the devices (10) and (20). A packet communication circuit (35) of the monitoring device (10) stores image data in a database of a server (22) through a packet network (12). A packet communication circuit (55) of the portable terminal (20) accesses the server (22) through the packet network (12) and transmits a command to the server (22), and the server (22) transmits predetermined image data to the portable terminal (20) through the packet network (12) according to the command in the state in which the audio communication between the monitoring device (10) and the portable terminal (20) through the portable telephone network (14) is carried on.
