Abstract:
A removable memory card (1), which is attachable to and detachable from a host device (2), comprises a nonvolatile semiconductor memory where data stored therein are erased by one block, which has a predetermined amount of data, at a time; a system information storing part in which internal information of the present apparatus has been stored; and a control part that controls, based on a command from the host device (2), the semiconductor memory. The memory card (1) can accept a command for initialization. When receiving an initialization command from the host device (2), the memory card (1) logically formats the storage areas of the semiconductor memory in accordance with parameters stored in the system information storing part.
