Abstract:
A deactivator which, upon contact with a contact lens sterilization/disinfection liquid containing a cationic bactericide or disinfectant, reduces or eliminates the bactericidal or disinfecting activity of the bactericide or disinfectant after the lapse of a time sufficient for contact lens sterilization/disinfection, which comprises a hydrophilic anionic copolymer obtained by copolymerizing an anionic monomer with a hydrophilic nonionic monomer. A contact lens is immersed in a sterilization/disinfection liquid containing a cationic bactericide or disinfectant to sterilize or disinfect the lens, while the deactivator is contacted with the sterilization/disinfection liquid to deactivate the bactericide or disinfectant. An anionic substance is caused to be present, and a means for restricting the contact of the bactericide or disinfectant with the anionic substance is disposed, whereby the rate of deactivation of the bactericide or disinfectant by the anionic substance is reduced. Thus, the bactericidal or disinfecting activity of the sterilization/disinfection liquid is reduced or eliminated after a contact lens has been sterilized or disinfected.
