Description:
Decorative material for production of decorative and/or utility goods of arbitrary shapes, especially flat shapes.

Technical field of the invention The proposed solution concerns the decorative material based on textile and/or paper, which is used for production of decorative and/or utility goods of arbitrary shapes, especially flat shapes, which can be used, for instance, in households as well as at work.

Background of the invention So far, various types of decorative materials for production of small articles, which can be used also as utility goods. Such articles include especially various place mats, dish-mats and other mats under e. g. vases and pots, lampshades, however also ceiling and wall tiles etc. These articles are typically produced of paper, textiles, plastics, cork, polystyrene, and/or ceramics or other natural materials as straw. In most cases, these articles are made of a single-layer.

These materials are disadvantageous for their limited use, their short service life and/or high production costs. For instance, where paper or textile place mats and/or various pads are used, they are easily impaired or wrinkled mechanically or by heat, and thus their appearance is worsened aesthetically; and finally yet importantly it is hard to maintain them in their original conditions, especially in terms of their colorfulness. Plastic mats commonly used in kitchens and dining rooms as place settings can be easily destructed by heat so that they are not suitable as pads under very hot dishes. Where cork, straw and/or polystyrene is used, these materials are without any decorating, since such decorating is time-

demanding, especially in case of more complex forms and patterns. As concerns ceramics, this material has relatively low cost-effectiveness.

Summary of the invention The aforementioned deficiencies are removed in case of the decorative material for production of decorative and/or utility goods of arbitrary shapes, especially flat shapes, made according to the proposed solution. The principal of such material are at least two layers (in case of the basic model), where the first one is a structural (carrying) layer with required patterns and decorations, and the second one is transparent plastic laminating foil (membrane). The basic carrying layer is mostly made of textile with decoration on its face side. Depending on designer's intentions, the plastic laminating foil is placed on the face side of such basic carrying layer, and/or on its reverse, i. e. the backside of this fabric.

Another model has its basic carrying layer made of paper decorated on one side only. The plastic laminating foil is applied to the basic carrying layer on decorated side, and the reverse side of this basic carrying foil, i. e. that side without decoration, is equipped with self-adhesive white contrast foil. This self-adhesive white contrast foil cari be adhesive on one side or both sides. In case of two-side adhesive foil, another thermally insulating layer is stuck to this foil. This layer of thermally insulating material is, for instance, cork or foam.

This model has the main advantage that it can be produced in a easy and cheap manner, and the final material has a wide range of uses as well as decoration possibilities with various kinds of color patterns, potentially embossed in high & low relief. Such final material is easily workable into a number of decorative as well as utility articles of various forms and shapes. It has a very long service life, during which its appearance can be maintained, as well as high heat resistance. The laminating foil can be either glossy or mat, and thus to extend the resulting appearance characteristics of articles. This materiai can be easily

maintained in tidy conditions since it is washable, and wiping with a damp cloth is sufficient.

Example of the embodiement of the invention As the simples model, the decorative material for production decorative and/or utility articles is made as a two-layer type, where the basic carrying layer with decoration is coated with transparent plastic laminating foil, i. e. the foil with thermally activated adhesives. In this case, the basic carrying layer is formed by fabric/textile with decoration on its face side. The plastic laminating foil is applied, depending on requirements, on the decoration, or on the backside of the fabric, resulting in different aesthetical as well as tactile feelings. This type of decorative material is highly suitable, for instance, for production of lampshades.

This simplest model can use paper as the basic carrying layer, with one- side decoration. For instance, a photograph, wallpaper, or serviette can be used.

In the case that such type of the basic carrying layer is used, the plastic laminating foil is usually placed on the decorated side, and the reverse side is coated by self- adhesive white contrast foil, e. g. vinyl foil. This foil increases especially the contrast and brightness of color decoration. This type of decorative material is highly suitable for production of place settings and pads for households.

Another model of the multi-layer sheet is made in the same manner as the above type, but the self-adhesive white contrast foil is adhesive on both sides, where a thermally insulating layer, e. g. cork or foam, is applied to the underside.

This type of sheet is suitable for production of mats to be used under pots, saucepans, or bowls with very hot contents. This multi-layer sheet can be used for production of various decorative facing panels, e. g. tops of desks, tables, etc.

In case of all and any types of these decorative sheet materials, the production technology is simple, and requires no complex and costly machinery.

The basic carrying layer can be laminated under temperatures around 120 C and the lamination itself can be made by an ordinary smoothing iron. This decorative multi-layer sheet material can be highly attractive, when off-the-shelf three-layer napkins having nice and neat decoration are used as the base, to which a simple modification method is applied. In such case, the method of production of the decorative material is following. First, the bottom white layer of paper is removed.

Thereafter, a napkin is smoothed by an iron. Subsequently, plastic laminating foil is applied to the napkin on its decorated side by ironing. During this lamination, the bottom (originally medium) layer of the napkin, i. e. white paper, is released spontaneously, which is removed again. To the bottom of such two-layer sheet (plastic laminating foil + basic carrying layer with decoration) one-side adhesive white contrast foil or two-side adhesive white contrast foil is applied, where in the latter case, another layer of some optional material (e. g. cork) is stuck.

The final shapes of products are made of the decorative sheet material, which has been produced in one of the aforementioned processes, by cutting, blanking, carving, etc. If one layer of any multi-layer sheet is cork or another brittle material, it is recommended to use a template, a thin board or plate cut into a required shape or pattern, as a guide for cutting of the sheet, and so the cork would not break during cutting.

Industrial applicability The given material can be used for production of various decorative and/or utility articles for households and commercial areas as well. Numbers of interesting combinations of these articles can be created, for instance settings can match with lampshades and wall linings, etc. The main advantage is the opportunity to select an arbitrary type of decoration of articles, and arbitrary combination of such articles.
