Title:
DEGRADABLE, POROUS, MAGNESIUM-CONTAINING CALCIUM PHOSPHATE-CALCIUM SULFATE COMPOSITE BIOLOGICAL STENT
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2017/219654
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A degradable, porous, magnesium-containing calcium phosphate-calcium sulfate composite biological stent. A calcined bovine cancellous bone mineral porous stent is subject to a three-part system comprising a magnesium-source, sulfur-source, and phosphorus-source for processing, and is then retrieved, dried, and subject to high temperature calcination. The degradable, porous, magnesium-containing calcium phosphate-calcium sulfate composite biological stent has an excellent three-dimensional, interconnected porous structure, bone conductivity, and degradability as well as improved mechanical strength and biocompatibility. A pore of the stent has a calcium sulfate crystal whisker growth with a larger length-to-diameter ratio, and can thus be used to increase the specific surface area of a material and improve cellular adhesion. Effective addition of an osteogenic magnesium ion and of calcium sulfate, wherein the calcium sulfate generates a calcium-rich local environment when degraded, provides a potential osteoinductive property to the composite biological stent. The composite biological stent can better meet the ideal properties for a bone grafting material or a bone tissue engineering stent material.
