Provided is a desalination performance restoring agent for a cellulose acetate membrane, the agent containing a solvent and a modified polyvinyl alcohol mixed in the solvent. The modified polyvinyl alcohol contains a modified polyvinyl alcohol having an acetyl group structure in at least a portion of the polyvinyl alcohol.
