Description:
A DEVICE FOR APPLICATION OF A GLUE LINING

The present invention relates to a device for applica¬ tion of a glue lining on an edge side of a floor board or the like.

Hard floor boards of plastics and/or wood have got an in¬ creased use as floor covering material. Usually these boards are provided with groove and tenon for mounting the boards edge to edge with each other. At the mounting of a floor by means of such floor boards a glue lining is manually applied in the groove, whereby the floor boards are fixed in respect of each other when they have been fitted in by pushing the tenons into the grooves.

Usually the glue lining is applied from a plastic bottle having a suitable mouthpiece. The glue lining is applied directly in the groove on one or two edge sides of a floor board before this board is pushed towards the tenons on one respectively two corresponding edge sides of earlier mounted floor boards. Of course it is impor¬ tant then that the glue lining is coherent and thick enough to fill the groove-tenon joint completely in its whole length. This is difficult to achieve by the manual application which is also tiring.

Thus, the purpose of the present invention is to bring about a device which makes it possible to apply a glue lining of a desired thickness on the edge side of a floor board or the like.

This purpose is fulfilled by means of a device of the kind disclosed above. The device comprises a housing con-

taining a gear wheel pump with an inlet connectable to a glue container and an outlet for discharging a glue lining. The housing is provided with guides which allow a movement of the housing along the edge side with the outlet directed towards the edge side. A wheel is mounted on an axle which also carries a gear wheel belonging to the gear wheel pump. The wheel is arranged to drive the pump by transferring its rotating movement to the gear wheel and via this to a second gear wheel of the pump at rolling contact of the wheel with one side of the floor board at the movement of the housing along the edge side. Thereby, the glue is discharged by means of the gear wheels via the outlet to the edge side.

The device makes it possible to apply a glue lining with an even thickness on the edge side. By a suitable dimen¬ sioning of the driving of the pump a desired thickness of the glue lining can be secured.

Advantageously the guides can consist of two surfaces of which the first is intended to lie on the edge side and the second on a flat side of the floor board.

To get a proper rolling contact the wheel is preferably arranged to protrude from the second surface.

Thus, the first guiding surface contains the outlet of the pump and has a less extension across the other guiding surface than the thickness of the floor board.

A preferred embodiment of the device according to the in¬ vention is disclosed below with reference to the enclosed drawing.

Fig 1 shows a cross-section of the device along the line I-I in fig 3.

Fig 2 shows a partial cross-section along the line II-II in fig 1.

Fig 3 illustrates the device from above and fig 4 from below.

Fig 5 shows a portion of the view from fig 1 on an enlarged scale where the device is illustrated when used on a floor board.

The device shown on the drawings comprises a housing 1, which have substantially parallel epipedical form and can consist of two parts la, lb which can be mounted together by means of screws indicated in fig 2. The housing 1 en¬ closes and forms a pump housing for a gear wheel pump with two gear wheels 2, 3 which have gearing engagement with each other and are closely attached to and rotate together with one axle each, 4 and 5 respectively. -

The gear wheels 2, 3 are situated in a pump room 6 which at the low side via a channel 7 is connected to an inlet 8 having an internal thread 9, whereby a glue container 10 with a neck 11 and a corresponding external thread 12 can be connected to the inlet 8 and the channel 7 in a tight way. The pump room 6 is at the compression face via a channel 13 connected to an outlet 14.

The outlet 14 is arranged in a flange 15 which makes a part of the housing 1. The flange 15 extends out from a bottom surface 16 of the housing 1. The outlet 14 is

directly substantially parallelly to the bottom surface 16 out of a surface 17 of the flange 15. The surface 17 is mainly perpendicular to the bottom surface 16.

On the axle 4 a wheel 18 is firmly attached whereby the gear wheel 2 and the wheel 18 rotate together. The wheel

18 is placed in a chamber 19 open towards the bottom surface 16. The wheel 18 protrudes somewhat out of the bottom surface 16.

At the use of the device according to the invention it is placed on a floor board 20 for example as shown in fig 5. More specified the flange surface 17 is placed in contact with an edge side 21 of the floor board 20 and the bottom surface 16 is placed substantially in contact with a flat side 22 of the floor board 20.

Then the part of the wheel 18 protruding from the chamber

19 will rest with its periphery surface on the flat side of the floor board 20. In addition the outlet 14 will be directed towards a groove 23 in the edge side of the floor board 20. Finally the flange 15 will be situated at a distance above an underlayer 24 upon which the floor board is placed.

When the housing 1 is moved along the edge side 21, the wheel 18 will roll in contact with the flat side 22 of the floor board 20 and thereby get the gear wheels 2, 3 to rotate and glue 25 from the glue container 10 to be fed out through the outlet 14 and into the groove 23. As the driving of the gear wheel pump is obtained via the wheel 18 the discharged glue lining will have a sub¬ stantially constant thickness which means that the discharged amount of glue per unit of length is constant

independent on how fast the housing 1 is moved along the edge side 21 of the floor board 22.

It is evident that by suitable dimensioning of the gear wheel pump, the discharged amount of glue per length can be brought to agree with the desired amount.

The present invention is not limited to the embodiment shown, since this can be modified in different ways within the scope of the invention.
