Description:
DEVICE FOR A BUCKET

This invention relates to a device tor a bucket of a digging machine, which in a usual way comprises a hydraulically operable arm, which is arranged to be detachably fastened on the bucket, the outer portion of the arm comprising a plate-formed means, which is intended to be detachably applied on an outer delimitation surface of the bucket, and a plurality of shim means being fastened on the delimitation surface and accordingly positioned between the bucket and the plate-formed means of the arm ofthe digging machine.

The purpose of these shim means is to give a more stable and secure fastening of the plate-formed means of the arm of the digging machine against the bucket itself and the shim means as a rule are fastened to the bucket by screwing. This means that if there is a desire to exchange existing shim means for such ones having another thickness, the procedure becomes very time-consuming. The reason why it is necessary to exchange existing shim means for other means, which are thicker than the existing ones, is that there often arises a play in the connection between the bucket ofthe digging machine and the plate-formed means of the arm o the digging machine due to wear in the equipment. This invention relates to a device, which makes a simplified handling possible when exchanging existing shim means for such ones having another thickness. This has been made possible by the fact that each shim means has such a design appearing from the claims.

A preferred embodiment of the invention shall be described more closely below with reference to the accompanying drawings, where Fig. 1 shows the positioning of the shim means on the bucket of the digging machine,

Fig. 2 shows a detailed picture of a shim means according to the invention. and Fig. 3 shows a section along the line III-III through the shim means according to Fig. 2. Referring to Fig. 1 is shown there the outer portion of a hydraulically operable arm 1. which is arranged on a not shown digging machine. This arm is articulately fastened on a plate-formed means 2, which is intended to be detachably fastened on an outer delimitation surface 3 of a bucket 4 or the like. In order to prevent play between the means 2 and the delimitation surface 3 and accordingly improve the connection between these ones, a plurality of schematically shown shim means 5 are arranged on the outer delimitation surface 3 of the bucket 4.

These shim means 5, after the use for a period, have to be exchanged for thicker means due to the strong wear arising on the equipment during the digging procedure. This is facilitated to a high extent by the new invention.

In Fig. 2 a shim means 5 according to the invention is shown more closely. This means is made of a suitable metallic material and has a rectangularly or squarely designed frame 6 comprising two parallel side portions 7, 8 and a front portion 9 connecting the side portions 7, 8. A spacing piece 10 is insertably arranged between the side portions. This spacing piece has such a design that its portion in relation to the frame portions can be changed in the vertical direction V, seen in Fig. 3. However, the top surface of the two side portions 7, 8 has projections 1 1, 12 (see Fig. 3), directed inwards, i.e. towards the middle part of the frame, which are intended to be able to cooperate with projections 13. 14, directed outwards, of respective side portion 21a, b of he lower part of the spacing piece 10, whereby the spacing piece 10 cannot be taken out from the frame 6 of the shim means 5 in the vertical direction.

The shim means 5 at its rear portion has a detachable back piece 15, which connects the side portions 7, 8 of the frame 6 with each other and is held together with these ones by means of two suitable screw means 16, 17. This back piece is intended to held together the spacing piece 10 with the frame portions 7, 8, 9.

In accordance to what has been stated previously there is a possibility of a certain movability in the vertical direction for the spacing piece 10 in relation to the surrounding frame portions 7, 8, 9, 15. Thus, this movability shall permit detachable plates 18 to be able to be inserted under the spacing piece 10 and be positioned between the side portions 7, 8 of the frame 6.

In the normal position, i.e. when no plates 18 are inserted into the shim means 5, the undersurface 19 of the spacing piece 10 is applied against the bedding, i.e. the outer delimitation surface of the bucket 4, the upper surface 20 of the spacing piece 10 being substantially on the same level as the upper surface of the side portions 7, 8. However, as is shown in Fig. 3, the upper surface 20 of the spacing piece 10 can be raised above the upper surface of the side portions 7, 8 by the fact that loose plates 18, suitably made of metallic material, are inserted into the shim means 5 under the spacing piece 10.

When using the new invention the following happens: The two frame side portions 7. 8 and the front frame portion 9, connecting the side portions 7, 8 with each other, of each shim means are fixed by welding on the outer delimitation surface 3 of the bucket 4. Thereafter the spacing piece is inserted between the side portions 7, 8 and back piece 15 is fastened. When applying the plate-formed means of the arm of the digging machine against the outer delimitation surface 3 of the bucket 4. the

underside of the plate-formed means 2 will accordingly rest against the pluralin of shim means 5, which accordingly eliminate possible play between the plate-formed means 2 and the outer delimitation surface 3 of the bucket 4. As the time goes and the digging machine works, a play between the plate-formed means 2 of the arm 1 of the digging machine and the bucket 4 begins again to arise. In this situation the plate-formed means 2 is loosened from the bucket, whereafter the back piece 15 of the shim means 5 is loosened. One or more plates 18 of such a thickness that the play between the plate-formed means 2 and the bucket 4 is eliminated are inserted under the spacing piece 10 of the shim means 5, whereafter the back piece 15 is put back and locks the inserting plates 18 to a fixed position. In this situation the digging machine is ready for effective use for another period of time.

The invention is of course not limited to the shown and mentioned embodiment but can be modified within the scope ofthe following claims.
