Description:
Device in fittings for windows and doors for preventing burglary

The present invention relates to a device in fittings for windows and doors with belonging frames or frame pieces which are intended for arrangement into an opening in a building and adjacent to its wall or wall elements, posts or similar shown by the wall, whereby the device comprises fastening means for anchoring of the fittings and one or more reinforcements intended for being arranged to a back of at least one frame piece.

The device according to the invention could in a more restricted sense also be expressed as being an anchoring for fittings, as hinges and striker plates, for windows, outer doors and window-doors especially for houses and flats meaning that at an installation of the window or door into an opening in a building the fittings is or are arranged for anchoring in the building, its wall or a building portion adjacent to said opening, as wall units, posts, framing or similar.

There is a need of an improved anchoring of fittings for windows and doors especially for houses and flats dependence on the sharp increasing burglary in domiciles. Such unlawful encrouchment in housing happens usually by attacking hinges and some time striker plates by use of a breaking tool, as a crowbar. However, the locking side of i.a. doors has been improved in recent years.

Window-frames , doors and belonging frames especially for houses but also often for flats are made of wood and/or wooden based material. Fittings, for example hinges, are anchored to the frame by screws made for wood. As said, burglary into a housing happens often by break open open a door or a window by means of a breaking tool. At this, the hinges are often attacked or in older types of locks the locking side. The hinges themselves admit a grip for the breaking tool and can relatively easy be broken loose from their fastenings in a frame piece. Certain design of the hinges has been proposed for better anchoring of them in door and at times also in frame. Newer doors have a design so that they fulfils recomended safty class 2 but they does not stand up against more power ¬ ful attacks with breaking tools as a crow-bar.

There is also a need to be able to raise the security of outer doors to a higher safety class (class 3) but the it has been required that the door is a steel door and that the frames also are made of steel. Regarding front doors for housing objects, as for houses, row houses and corresponding, it is not desirable with steel doors from aesthetical point of view. However, something must be done as burglary in houses and row houses during the three earliest quarters 2009 increasted by 67 % according to statistics for the area of Stockholm. Considering the whole country the corresponding number was 23 % but there are also places where the increase is 200 %.

In EP 1 165 918 is shown a hinge in great demand and use having an improved anchoring in frame but above all in door. The hinge has been shown to be able to resist attacks with breaking tools, as when using a crow-bar. Said hinge has later on been further developed and i.a. concerning the anchoring of the hinge in the door, whereby said anchoring is more than enough met. One object with the device according to this invention is thus to improve the anchoring of fittings in the frame for windows and doors.

Another object of the device. according to the .invention is to attain a higher safety class for, for example, an outer door for houses and flats and without the need to change the aesthetical apperance of the door, as the door is a part of the facing of, for example., a house.

Still another object of the device according to the invention is that the device should be able to be used in contructions of windows and doors existing in production today, i.e. without the need to carry through any or some more extensive changes in contruction of the components, changings of the flow in the production and the logistics in other respects.

The device according to the invention is characterized in that at least one fastening means for one fittings or part of it is arranged to be able to extend from the fittings for engagement with the reinforcement or extend from the reinforcement for engagement with the fittings. Further in that the reinforcement is arranged in its turn to be able to be anchored to the wall surrounding the said opening in the building.

In one embodiment of the device in accordance with the invention the reinforcement shows engagement means for fastening means and holdings and/or through holes for anchoring means for the anchoring of the reinforcement and by that the anchoring of the fittings to the wall surrounding the said opening in the building .

According to another embodiment of the device in accordance with the invention the reinforcement shows one or more first collars with engagement means or internal threads for fastening means, whereby the collar is arranged to be able to run from the reinforcement and in the direction of a hold for fastening means for the fittings .

Still in another embodiment of the device in accordance with the invention the reinforcement is arranged to be provided or is provided with one or more additional devices, as adjustment devices, which are provided with holdings for anchoring means which are intended to run through the additional device and through the reinforcement for the anchoring of the reinforcement and by that the anchoring of the fittings to the wall surrounding the said opening in the buikding.

According to an additional embodiment of the device in accordance with the inventio said additional means shows connection device for engagement with the reinforcement which in applicable cases shows one or more second collars with engagement devices for the engagement of the additional means with the reinforcement for the anchoring of the reinforcement and by that anchoring of the fittings to the wall surrounding the said opening in the building.

I an additional another embodiment of the device in accordance with the invention the reinforcement is attached to a contact surface or in a rebate and thus is integrated with the frame piece in question, preferably said frame piece shows edges or longitudinal raised edges limiting the contact surface in the rebate.

Still in an additional embodiment of the device in accordance with the inventr- ion the fittings show or is designed with protrusions in the shape of tongues, angled border flange or similar for holding or engagement of fastening means.

Yet in an additional embodiment of the device in accordance with the invention the reinforcement shows protrusions or tongues, for example, in the shape of material lappets and with engagement means.

According to still another embodiment of the device in accordance with the invention the fastening means show connection means in the shape of a thread for engagem ent with the reinforcement or the fittings, whereby the reinforcement or the fittings shows engagement means for said connection means. Another characteristics of the device in accordance with the invention the said wall in the building which is going to be adjacent to intended frame piece, window or door, is provided with sheet-metals, as so-called nail-plates, which are arranged to be forced through by anchoring means for the. anchoring of the reinforcement and by that the anchoring of the fittings to the building.

Fig. 23 shows in a perspective view a portion of the opening in the building as evident from Fig. 22 but with an indicated building element installed into the opening, as a door frame or a frame piece with threshold and Fig . 24 shows in a perspective view one example of, a striker plate or the striker plate shown in Fig. 6 and belonging fastening means.

The device in accordance with the invention is intended for such building elements which are meant for arrangement to openings in a building, as openings for windows and doors, for closing the building. The building element can consist of windows, doors, French windows with belonging casements, frames or casement and frame pieces. The building elements in question are in intended opening in the building meant to be adjacent to the wall or wall elements shown by the wall , as posts or similar .

To gain simplicity the following examples of devices in accordance with the invention are going to refer to devices related to doors and their anchoring in belonging frame pieces 10 and further said frame pieces anchoring in the building .

The reference designation 1 in Figs. 1, 2, 5, 6, 15, 16 and 17 shows fittings intended for doors or window-doors and in form of a hinge 6 or one or more parts included in a hinge, as a hinge leaf and/or a so called base plate for a hinge or hinge leaves and a striker plate 7 respectively. The fittings 1, 6, 7 are arranged so they with one part are able to be arranged to intended frame piece 10 by means of fastening means 2 and with another part to a door 21.

The frame pieces 10 show as usual a back 11, an inner side 12, an outer side 13 and an inner face 14 with a fold 15. In the fold 15 exists according to the embodiment example a rebate 16 for receiving the said first part of the fitt- ings 1, 6, 7. The device comprises one or more reinforcements 4 in form of one or more pieces of sheet-metal of a strength material, as steel, and are intended for being adjacent to or be arranged to the back 11 of the frame piece, see also Figs. 7 - 14. As is evident from said figures the reinforcement 4 can reach along the entire length of the frame piece 10 and thus be in one piece and be anchored with or to the back 11 of the frame piece 10. Thus, the reinforcement 4 can show through holes 28 for integration of the reinforcement 4 in or to the frame piece 10 by means of fastening devices. In the embodiment examples shown, the reinforcement 4 is countersunk into the frame piece 10 in arranged recesses 18 in its back 11. An advantage at this is thatthe existence of the reinforcement 4 can be consealed and that one does not enlarge the thickness of the frame. Full funktion of the device exists even when the reinforcement 4 is arranged against the back of the frame piece 10 without the said or mention rebates 18 in the frame piece 10.

It has been proposed solutions that seems to be confident but does not function in practice. This i.a. is dependent on the fact that one make improvements in details and not a more comprehensive solution. As said, the attachment of striker plates and hinges in frame has been proposed to be improved on one hand and the attachment of the frame on the other hand. Even if one thing is improved so exist a remaining weakness with another .

One object with the device in accordance with the invention is thus to further develop the anchoring of the fittings 6, 7 and their attachment in frame and the attachment of the frame in connecting wall, i.e. both and by co-operative fittings and not by separated or from one another different anchorings .

Thus the device is, according to a first embodiment, shaped in such a way that the said anchoring device 2 or devices in form of fastening means 3 for the fittings 1, 6, 7 are not anchored in the current frame, i.e. in the wood of the frame but instead in the reinforcement 4 by means of connections in fitting 1, 6, 7 and reinforcements 4 in form of holds 22 and engagement means 24. By this is the fittings 1, 6, 7 practically anchored in the frame 10 corresponding a frame of steel.

According to the shown, schematic embodiments in Figs. 1 and 2 the fastening means 3 runs in customsry way into the frame 10 for attachment of the fittings 1, 6 but here they have a longer reach so they can engage with the connection means 23 in the reinforcement 4 which at this shows engagement means 24. In such an attachment exists only only some material between fastening means 3 and the outer side 13 of the frame 10 even if the improved anchoring exists by the engagement in the reinforcement 4. In this connection one can at the same time , as an example, refer to Figs. 3 and 4. whereby it is evident that the through holes. 39 or bores are made in the frame 10 for the running of the fastening means 3 through the frame 10 for engagement with said engagement means 24 of the reinforcement 4.

For the anchoring of the fittings 1, 6, 7 farther into the frame 10 can the reinforcement 4 as well as the fittings 1, 6, 7 show tongues 5, 8 or projections 5, 8 or similar, whereby the fastening means 3 are going to run through more material in the frame 10 and farther away from its outer side 13, see Figs. 5 and 6. Even here exist through holes 39 or bores through the frame 10 for the fastening means 3. From Figs. 7 and 8 can be understood that such said tongues 5 or projections can be an angled flange or similar.

For said tongues 5, projections, fastening flanges or the like, the back 11 of the frame 10 shows recesses or cavities 19 for receiving th tongues 5. Corresponding cavities 19 exist, of course, in the said rebate 18 if the back 11 of the frame 10 is shaped with such.

Corresponding recesses 17 exist also i the rebates 16 for receiving and having room for existing tongues 8, projections or the like.

Frame pieces 10 or side-frame pieces 10 show usually pre-bored through holes 20 - usually four with cover-plugs covered through holes 20 - for outer doors for anchoring means 26 for the anchoring of the frame pieces in the building 29, see Figs. 9 - 14. In this case can a stsy 25 or holdings 25 for anchoring means 26 be arranged in the reinforcement 4, see Fig. 9.

The frame pieces 10 show often additional devices 27, as adjustment means, showing holdings 25 for anchoring means 26. The additional devices 27 show one or more external threads 37 for engagement with the engagement means 24 of the reinforcement 4. For an improved anchoring in the reinforcement 4 can the reinforcement 4 show one or more collars 24 with engagement means 24 or internal threads 24.

According to a further embodiment is the device shaoed in such a way that the reinforcement 4 is arranged for anchoring in the building in the part of the wall surrounding the said opening in the building. Thus, the reinforcement 4 shows engagement devices 31 or corresponding for connection and anchoring of the reinforcement 4 and by that the frame 10 to the building 29, whereby the fittings 1, 6, 7 are anchored in the building and not only in a miner volume of wood in the frame 10.

As evident from the embodiment shown in Figs. 13 - 16 the reinforcement 4 can show an extension 44 extending as an angled border flange and lie against another side 14 of the frame pieces 10, whereby the reinforcement 4 is going to be even better integrated or anchored in the frame piece 10. As evident from Figs. 15 and 16 can anchoring of fittings 1, 6, 7 in the frame pieces 10 in this case be done from said side 14 of the frame pieces 10, whereby the anchoring of the fittings occur far from or so far from the outer side 13 of the frame as possible and with totally inaccessible fastening means 3, 32. The fittings 1, 6 can at this, in applicable cases, be shaped with angled fastening parts 38 for the fastening means 3, 32, see Fig. 15.

If one would attack, for example, an outer door with a breaking tool for unlawful encrouchment in the building and in that respect, as it is of current occur, to try to break loose fittings 1, 6, 7 from the frame pieces 10 require that one had to break loose the whole frame and at least anchorings in the building 29.

In order to further improve the protection against burglary the building 39 can be equipped with so-called nail-plates 40 or similar, see Fig. 18, as anchorings for the fittings 1, 6, 7 or the anchoring means 26 can come to end in one or more splices in the building 29. Thus, Thus, the opening in the building 29, in which the building element will be anchored, is bordered by wall post 9 or similar, often a supplementary post 35 and panel 45 or corresponding facing of the building 29. Consequently exist splices 36 and 43 between the said building parts and into which the anchoring means 26 can come to be anchored. If nail- plates are arranged in the area for the anchoring means 26 so they are anchored by engagement in the nail-plate an ensured anchoring will be attained.

In a device in accordance with the invention the frame pieces 10 or side-frame pieces 10 will only have a function as a stop for the door panel and for the rest only form a d6cor or filling. Fittings - Hinge or part or parts of it, striker plate.
