Abstract:
In order to place sportsmen in equal positions independent of the individual capacities thereof during running competitions, from a certain time, starting equipment is provided with devices for measuring the reaction time of a sportsman to a starting shot. The inventive device comprises a beam source which is arranged in a body (2) provided with a window and placed on a median strip (B) of a race track, and a beam receiver which is arranged in a body (4) provided with a window (5) and placed on a next median strip (C). The windows (3) and (5) of the bodies (2) and (4) are embodied at a height of 15-20 mm from the base thereof in such a way that the beam passes from the source to the receiver at the same height with respect to the race track. When a sportsman is preparing for starting, the hands thereof cut the beam, when he starts the hands thereof are taken off the race track, thereby allowing the beam to reach the receiver thereof and transmit a starting signal to an analysing unit. In the preferred embodiment, the beam is invisible for a human eye. Said device is base on optical measuring principle independent of the physical abilities of the sportsmen and the individual positions thereof on the starting line, thereby making it possible to more accurately measure the starting time. First movement of the sportsman after the starting shot, begins within the moment at which the sportsman takes his/her hands off and is followed by the raising of the sportsman's legs and the pressure thereof on starting blocks.
