Abstract:
The present subject matter relates to a control unit and a method for controlling an ignition device with a fuel-fed prechamber in an internal combustion engine, wherein the control unit controls a jet strength of reactive jets entering from the prechamber into the main combustion chamber. The jet strength may be the ignition energy of the reactive jets which is generated by a combustion taking place inside the prechamber. Since the ignition energy may be difficult to measure during engine operation, pressure oscillations in the main combustion chamber induced by the ignition energy of the reactive jets can be detected instead by a commonly used determining means, such as, e.g., a pressure sensor or a knock sensor. Based on the detected pressure oscillations, a characteristic parameter representing the jet strength may be calculated which is suitable to be used as controlled variable in a feedback control. This leads to a control concept which allows for ensuring the efficiency and the emission limits of the internal combustion engine over its lifetime.
