Title:
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR DEEP-FREEZE STORING OF BIOLOGICAL PREPARATIONS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO1998047357
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device and method for storing suspensions of living cells at cryogenic temperatures in a large number of packs, for example in a large blood bank. It is especially important to ensure that the preparations being stored can be accessed and administered automatically, especially given the working conditions in a deep-cooled storage room. Self-sufficient operation over a limited period of time, for example during transportation is also desirable from the point of view of use in a disaster or a national defence situation. The inventive storage device (1) provides for structured storage of deep-frozen cell suspensions in flat bags (13) at cryogenic storage temperatures, in storage boxes (14), storage clusters (15) and refrigerated storage modules (2). According to the invention, storage and removal from storage takes place by means of an integrated storage control unit (16) and a refrigerated shuttle system (29). The refrigerated storage modules (2) configured with a container assembly can remain self-sufficient for a limited period of time by virtue of integrated energy carriers and data storage devices (6, 7), and can therefore be transported without this restricting operation in any way. The container structure of the refrigerated storage modules (2) means that any number of said modules can be linked to an automated larger storage facility. It is also possible to extend the device by adding further refrigerated storage modules without interrupting operation.
