Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a device and method for detecting a tail end of a coiled strip-shaped object, whereby damage to the surface of a strip-shaped body is suppressed, and it is possible to handle various coil diameters while also detecting the tail end of the strip-shaped body with high precision even when the strip-shaped body is thin. [Solution] This device for detecting a tail end of a coiled strip-shaped object includes: a first detection means for detecting, without contact, a tail end of a coiled strip-shaped object loaded on a loading means for loading rotatably about a shaft; a sensor movement means for causing the first detection means to move with respect to a plurality of coiled strip-shaped objects having mutually different diameters so that the direction in which detection light in the first detection means is emitted is toward the center of each coiled strip-shaped object; and a control means for causing a coiled strip-shaped object loaded on the loading means to rotate about the shaft.
