Abstract:
The present invention ascertains the number of banknotes accumulated in a collection part without causing too much trouble to a user when device failure occurs. The present invention has: an identification unit (10) for identifying banknotes; a collection part (4) for accumulating banknotes that are identified by the identification unit and conveyed via a conveyance passage; a memory storage unit (16) for storing first banknote serial numbers acquired by the identification unit when banknotes are accumulated in the collection part; and a control unit (18) for controlling the conveyance of banknotes, and, when a failure occurs during banknote conveyance, performing control so as to restore conveyance in the conveyance passage. When re-counting the number of banknotes during restoration from the failure, the identification unit (10) acquires second serial numbers of a plurality of banknotes starting with the top-most banknote accumulated in the collection part (4). Of those banknotes, the control unit (18) compares the first serial numbers stored in the memory storage unit and the second serial numbers acquired by the identification unit (10), and according to the comparison result, determines whether there is any indeterminacy in the number of banknotes accumulated in the collection part.
