Description:
DEVICE FOR PROJECTING ONTO A PROJECTION SCREEN AN IMAGE

GENERATED BY A DISPLAY DEVICE

The invention relates to a device for projecting onto a projection screen an image generated on a screen by a display device, comprising a holder for supporting a display device and a projection screen of a transparent material which extends from the screen, wherein the projection screen has a reflective surface which encloses an acute angle with the screen in such a manner that an image generated on a first part of the screen is projected onto the projection screen.

Display device is here understood to mean an apparatus provided with a screen on which a video image can be

generated by the display device, such as an LCD screen, a plasma screen, an LED screen and any apparatus into which such a screen is integrated, for instance a television set, a mobile telephone, a game computer or a tablet computer.

Known from EP 2 645 151 Al is a holder for reproducing the image generated by a video display device, particularly the image generated by a smart phone.

The known holder comprises a housing for a smart phone to be placed on the bottom and directed with the screen upward, provided with a pivoting cover from which a number of parallel transparent mirrors are pivotally suspended at a determined mutual distance. When the cover is opened the mirrors come to lie with their underside just on the screen, wherein each of the mirrors reflects a part of the image generated on the screen and the user observes a three- dimensional image of the generated image on the assembly of the mirrors.

The known holder has a number of limitations in its use. It is for instance not possible to project a three- dimensional image against the background formed by a static scenery backdrop selected by the user.

The production costs of the known holder are moreover relatively high. because the holder is embodied in a plastic material, for which purpose expensive production moulds have to be manufactured.

It is an object of the invention to provide a device for projecting an image generated by a screen, whereby it is possible in principle to project an image which is perceived as three-dimensional by a viewer, against the background formed by a scenery backdrop selected by the user.

It is a further objective to provide a device, the holder of which can be manufactured in relatively simple manner and at relatively low cost.

These objectives are realized, and other advantages gained, with a device of the type stated in the preamble, wherein according to the invention the holder comprises a housing assembled from a first wall, two opposite walls standing therefrom and a standing fourth wall connecting those opposite walls, wherein the projection screen is received between the two opposite walls and an image

generated on a second part of the screen is not projected onto any projection screen.

Assembling the housing from walls enables manufacture from sheet-like parts, for which purpose the use of expensive moulds is not necessary.

The fact that a part of the image generated on the screen is not projected enables the user to make optimal use of a scenery backdrop to be arranged by him/her, as will be elucidated below.

In an embodiment of a device according to the invention the housing is configured to receive an inner wall placeable against the fourth wall.

The term "inner wall" must be interpreted broadly here. An inner wall can for instance be provided in the form of a sheet of cardboard or plastic on which an image is arranged. "Inner wall" can also be understood to mean a second display device, which is received in the housing with a screen remote from the rear wall.

The surface of at least the first wall and the two standing opposite walls, which is directed toward the interior of the housing, is preferably black in order to achieve optimal reproduction of the image projected onto the projection screen.

In yet another embodiment the housing is provided with a fifth wall connecting to the standing walls and extending over the screen for supporting.

The projection screen is preferably received in a frame for free displacement within predetermined limits in

directions parallel to the surface.

A thus received projection screen provides the advantage that mechanical forces exerted thereon in the direction of the surface, for instance due to thermal action on the projection screen or mechanical forces on the frame, do not result in undulating or bending of the projection screen.

The housing for the device according to the invention can be manufactured from any suitable material, for instance a suitable plastic material.

In an embodiment which can be realized at low cost price the housing is manufactured from sheet material, for instance from cardboard.

The acute angle between the screen and the reflective surface of the projection screen preferably amounts to 45°. At this angle the perception by a user of a three-dimensional image on the projection screen is optimal.

The invention further relates to a device as described above, provided with a display device which is configured to generate a first image on the first part of the screen and to generate a second image on the second part of the screen.

The second image is here for instance a uniform light surface, particularly a white surface, which can serve as lighting source for illuminating an inner wall arranged against the fourth wall and on which is arranged an image which functions as scenery backdrop.

The invention further relates to a blank of sheet material, provided with break and fold lines for folding at least a ,part of a housing for a device as described above.

The blank can be produced at relatively low cost and can for instance be supplied to a consumer in combination with the projection screen as part of a promotional or advertising campaign for a consumer product. Individual scenery walls for the housing to be folded from the blank can then be added to this product as part of this same advertising campaign.

The invention will be elucidated hereinbelow on the basis of exemplary embodiments with reference to the

drawings .

embodiment of the second part of the housing shown in fig. 1.

Corresponding components are designated in the figures with the same reference numerals.

Fig. 1 shows a projection apparatus 10 with a housing in the form of a rectangular block, which is assembled from a bottom 1, a left-hand side wall 2 and a right-hand side wall 3, a rear wall 4, a cover 5 and a front 6. Formed in front 6 is an opening 7 with a view of a reflective transparent projection screen 8 inclining upward to the rear, and an opening 9 for inserting therein a smart phone 13 (shown in fig. 2) . Formed in cover 5 is a slot 11 for inserting therein a plate 14 with an image, which can be slid into the housing in front of rear wall 4. Bottom 1, side walls 2, 3, the rear wall and front 5 are manufactured from covered F-flute cardboard with a black core.

Fig. 2 shows projection apparatus 10 in the situation of use, wherein a smart phone 13 and a scenery wall 14 have been received.

Fig. 3 shows a schematic side view of the projection apparatus 10 of fig. 2. Projection screen 8 extends downward from a point on screen 15 at an angle a = 45° in such a manner that an image generated by a first part I of screen 15 is projected onto projection screen 8, and an image generated by a second part II of screen 15 is not projected onto projection screen 8.

If an image to be generated by the smart phone is made such that it fills the first part I of screen 15 and displays a white surface on the second part II, first part I is displayed as pseudo three-dimensional image on projection screen 8 and the image on the inserted scenery wall 14 is illuminated by the white surface of second part II of screen 15.

Fig. 4 shows the bottom part of a frame 16 for a projection screen 8, manufactured from ABS plastic, with holes 17 for receiving protrusions 19 of a corresponding upper part 18 (shown in fig. 5) .

Fig. 5 shows a cross-section along line V-V in fig. 4, wherein an upper part 18 with protrusions 19 and a projection screen 8 are further shown. Projection screen 8, manufactured from a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is received by parts 16, 18 such that it is freely displaceable within determined limits in the directions x, y (see fig. 4) of the plane of screen 8, whereby forming of undulations and convex or concave parts in projection screen 8 is prevented.

Fig. 6 shows a blank 20 for the outer side of the housing of fig. 1. Incisions are shown in the figure by full lines and fold lines by broken lines. When folded out of the plane of drawing, the housing shown in fig. 1 is obtained. Formed on the part to be folded into front 6 are lips 6a, 6b which correspond respectively to the incision 2aa in the part to be folded into left-hand side wall 2 and the incision 3bb in the part to be folded into right-hand side wall 3. Formed on the part to be folded into rear wall 4 are lips 4a, 4b which correspond respectively to the incision 3aa in the part to be folded into right-hand side wall 3 and the incision 2bb in the part to be folded into the left-hand side wall 2.

Formed on the part to be folded into right-hand side wall 3 are lips 3a, 3b which correspond respectively to incisions laa and Ibb in the part to be folded into bottom 1. The figure further shows lips 3RA, 2LA, 3RV and 2LV which come to lie against respectively the right-hand and left-hand part of rear wall 4 and the right-hand and left-hand part of front 6. The part to be folded into cover 5 is shorter than the adjacent parts 2 and 3 so as to form slot 11 (represented by the dotted line) .

Fig. 7 shows a blank 30 for the interior of the housing of fig. 1. Incisions are shown in the figure by full lines and fold lines by broken lines.

When folding right-hand inner wall 23 and left-hand inner wall 24 out of the plane of drawing along central part 22 and folding strips 25, 26 inward, these strips 25, 26 form two supports which enclose an acute angle a = 45° with screen 15, as shown in fig. 3.

When folding part 21 rearward in the plane of drawing and once again folding edge 31 a platform is created for

supporting smart phone 13, wherein second part II of screen 15 comes to lie just above an opening 29. Platform 21 supports here on two parts 27, 28 to be folded into internal side walls in the plane of drawing. A thus folded blank 30 can be placed in the housing folded from blank 20, wherein inner walls 25, 27 come to lie against the left-hand outer wall 2, inner walls 26, 28 against the right-hand outer wall 3 and lip 31 on platform 21 against rear wall 4. The parts to be directed toward the interior of the housing are preferably black. Fig. 8 shows a blank 30 for the interior of the housing of fig. 1. Incisions are shown in the figure by full lines and fold lines by broken lines.

When folding the right-hand inner wall 23 and left-hand inner wall 24 rearward in the plane of drawing round part 21 over an angle of 90°, first window 37 over an angle of 45° and a second window 37' over an angle of 180°, windows 37, 37' form a frame between which a screen 15 can be received. An internal part of the housing is thus folded, which can be fixed by inserting the strips 25, 26 respectively formed on parts 23, 24 into respective slots 35, 36, 35', 36' in respectively the first window 37 and second window 37' .

When folding an edge 31 on part 21 rearward in the plane of drawing a platform is created for supporting smart phone 13, wherein second part II of screen 15 comes to lie just above an opening 29 in platform 21. Platform 21 supports here on the two side walls 23, 24. A thus folded blank 40 can be placed in the housing folded from blank 20, wherein inner wall 23 comes to lie against the left-hand outer wall 2, inner wall 24 against the right-hand outer wall 3 and lip 31 on platform 21 against rear wall 4.
