Abstract:
A device for upgrading a "YURASUS" solar cell consisting of individual sheets made from a light-conducting side-emitting polymer optical fibre with a photovoltaic coating applied thereto, said sheets being glued together to form a unit, at least one face of which is oriented towards the sun, said device being illuminated, for the purpose of generating electrical energy in conditions of limited light or in the absence thereof, via a face(s) that is not oriented towards the sun, by an appropriate artificial light, for example economical light emitting diode lamps or light lasers mounted on a holder with a reflector, which can be switched on automatically with the aid of a sensor. By means of the present device, a solar cell becomes universal and suitable for use in electric motor vehicles, electric trains, airplanes, spacecraft and domestic settings, and becomes independent of sunlight. Calculations show that the proportion of electrical energy consumed, for example by a motor vehicle battery generating 105 kWh, is not more than 0.5 kWh.
