Title:
DIE CASTING MACHINES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1980/001655
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A die casting machine comprising a sprue (31) for injecting molten metal into a die cavity for casting a product, a pressure channel (17) communicating with the die cavity (30) at the position different from the sprue (31), and a plunger (36) slidably disposed within the pressure channel (17), said plunger being designed to initiate the application of pressure to the molten metal filled within the pressure channel (17) before the molten metal in the sprue (31) is solidified to clog the sprue (31) to thus compress the molten metal in the cavity (30). In order to always fabricate a product without void, the sliding stroke of the plunger is set longer than half of the length L of the pressure channel (17). In addition, the relationship between the sectional area S of the pressure channel (17) and the length L of the pressure channel (17) is determined as represented by the following formula S = 0.35L2. Thus, the molten metal injected from the sprue (31) and filled into the cavity (30) is compressed from the side of the pressure channel (17). This die casting machine is adaptable to produce parts required for air tightness, durable for high pressure or required for precision machinery such as compressors or pump housings or the like.
