Abstract:
A dielectric material according to the present invention, which contains a nematic liquid crystal compound that has dielectric anisotropy and an azo compound that exists as a trans-isomer in the ground state, wherein the azo compound is transformed into a cis-isomer upon absorption of light that has a first wavelength, while being transformed into a trans-isomer upon absorption of light that has a second wavelength which is longer than the first wavelength.
