Abstract:
Disclosed is a discharge lamp comprising a light-emitting part (11) that has a first space (111) therein, an inner tube that has a seal part (12) formed in the light-emitting part, a discharge medium comprising a first gas (for example, xenon) enclosed in the first space, an electrode mount that is sealed in the seal part and has a metal foil (31), and an outer tube (5) connected to the inner tube. The discharge lamp is lighted with a tube axis kept substantially horizontal. A second gas (for example, nitrogen) is enclosed in a second space (51) formed between the inner tube and the outer tube and the shortest distance D between the surface of the electrode mount and the surface of the seal part satisfies D ≤ 1.0 mm (for example, the shortest distance is formed between the metal foil and the seal part, and the distance Df satisfies Df ≤ 1.0 mm). According to the above constitution, a discharge lamp having excellent starting characteristics can be provided.
