Title:
DISPLAY APPARATUS, ELECTRONIC DEVICE, AND ILLUMINATION APPARATUS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2013/039027
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The display apparatus of the present invention comprises an excitation light source, a liquid crystal element, a polarizing element, an excitation light source for emitting excitation light, and light distribution conversion unit. The liquid crystal element controls the polarization state of excitation light emitted from the excitation light source. The polarizing element transmits excitation light that is in a predetermined polarization state when excitation light in which the polarization state is controlled by the liquid crystal element is incident. The light distribution conversion unit generates isotropic fluorescence or fluorescence having a wider light distribution than the excitation light when excitation light that is in a predetermined polarization state and that is transmitted by the polarizing element is incident. The light distribution conversion unit is composed of an organic light-absorbing material for absorbing at least excitation light that is in a predetermined polarization state, and an organic light-emitting material for taking energy from the organic light-absorbing material and generating the isotropic fluorescence or fluorescence having a wide light distribution. The display apparatus performs display using fluorescence from the light distribution conversion unit.
