Abstract:
The present invention provides: an electrophoretic display device which can reduce a rewriting time, maintain high display quality, and reduce power consumption; and a driving method for an electrophoretic display device. This display device (1) has a pair of substrates (28, 29), a display medium (35), a driving means, and a display control unit (11), wherein the display control unit controls the driving means such that a first brightness improvement pulse (Pi1) having the same polarity as an inversion pulse (Pr), having an application time shorter than the total time of a writing pulse (Pf), and having a single polarity is applied to the display medium between the inversion pulse and a writing pulse, and controls the driving means such that a second brightness improvement pulse (Pi2) having the same polarity as the writing pulse, having an application time shorter than the total time of the inversion pulse, and having a single polarity is applied to the display medium between the inversion pulse and the first brightness improvement pulse.
