Abstract:
Disclosed is a display device employing organic electroluminescent elements, which is capable of selecting between a frontal luminosity (light extraction efficiency) priority mode and a wide viewing angle characteristic priority mode, depending on a user scene. A display device comprises a plurality of information signal lines (51) for transmitting information signals; a plurality of scan signal lines (52) for transmitting scan signals; and a plurality of pixels, which are electrically connected to the information signal lines and the scan signal lines, and which respectively further comprise organic electroluminescent elements. The display device further comprises a drive unit (59) that retains the information signals and outputs electrical current according to the retained information signals; and a first region (311) and a second region (312) wherein at least some pixels have the same hue, and the viewing angle characteristics differ. A switching circuit (60) is disposed that switches on or off the organic electroluminescent elements that are disposed in the first region and the organic electroluminescent elements that are disposed in the second region independently of one another.
