Abstract:
In a display device (10), a light emitting subframe period is selected such that the light emitting subframe period and a non-light emitting subframe period between various light emitting patterns A - D corresponding to pixels A - D differ in one or more locations. In a light emitting pattern A the number of light emitting subframe periods is selected to be the greatest number; in a light emitting pattern B selection is made such that the light emitting subframe period is as different as possible from that for the light emitting pattern A. In light emitting patterns C and D selection is made such that only the longest light emitting subframe period in the light emitting patterns A and B is different. Therefore, locations in which false contours occur can be dispersed spatially and false contours can be suppressed. Thus, a time division gradient display device wherein high gradation expression is possible and occurrences of false contours are sufficiently suppressed is provided.
