A display unit comprising a fluorescent surface (6) having a shielding unit containing a plurality of openings (23) and a fluorescent layer (30) formed on the shielding unit, and a metal back layer (7) provided to be overlaid on the fluorescent surface and having a plurality of dividing portions (7b) and a plurality of divided portions (7a) divided into a plurality of areas by these dividing portions, wherein the dividing portions (7b) are provided on the shielding unit via the fluorescent layer (30), and an electric resistance between adjacent two divided portions (7a) provided to hold one dividing portion (7b) between them is within a range of 10²&ohm to 10⁵&ohm via the fluorescent layer. This arrangement can limit the expansion of a discharging scale and also limit the destruction and deterioration of an electron emission element and a fluorescent surface and the destruction of circuits.
