Description:
DRAWER WITH BILATERALLY RETRACTABLE DRAWER BOX

The present invention relates to a drawer with bilaterally retractable drawer box, which drawer faces are larger than the drawer box and overlapping of a furniture body.

Bilateral opening of drawers is desirable in numerous utility furniture. They can hospital furniture (e.g. patient’s bedside lockers enabling easy opening toward a patient and, on the other side, toward a personnel or to other persons), kitchen furniture, furniture for craft workshops and service undertakings. Usually, in such cases, there are used drawers which drawer faces firmly mounted with a drawer box. Opening a drawer on one side creates an empty space after the drawer. The space is not favourable in the safety view: a person slipping the drawer back must be sure that other person does neither left any item nor his/her hand is not there. In addition, aesthetic is an advantage for seeking a bilateral drawer which excludes those inconveniences.

In the patent bibliography there are some solutions of the foregoing issue. For example the European patent EP2826403B1 description reveals a bilateral drawer. Actually it is a set of two drawers: a drawer face is firmly mounted with a drawer box bottom which interlock on both sides. On the drawer bottom there is laid a drawer basket, which after catching on the bottom is moved on one side. Japanese patent JP3812664B2 reveals a bilateral drawer with a drawer box retractable in two sides of a furniture body. Drawer faces are equipped with detents locking the faces with a drawer box while the faces is pull out. There is no a mechanism blocking a drawer face on the opposite side, and slides and detents are visible and attachable by a user. From the European patent EP1716778B1 description there is known bilateral drawer of one drawer box, which can be retracted on both sides by pulling out one of the drawer faces. Slides are connected with an item hooking the drawer face of pulled out side. After slipping the drawer back, the drawer face is disconnected. The opposite side drawer face is kept on slides and blocked by a hook in a furniture body. However, on both sides of the drawer there is free access to the mechanism, which can be important when safety is taken into account as much important as functionality. From Japanese patent JP5123068B2 description there is known a bilateral drawer, which drawer faces connect with a drawer box as a the face is pull put. Slides are synchronised by a sprocket wheel, which - during moving the drawer box to one side - automatically blocks the drawer face on the other side. As in the previously described solutions, the slides and hooks are visible and attachable by a user.

Invisibleness of whole mechanisms and slides before a user is important for safety. If such bilateral drawer is used for example in a hospital, a person of weakened condition may put anything in slides or hitched to other mechanism elements. In places, where there is necessary to protect from a crime (for example a cash desk in a bank during cash dispensing) does not allow to intentional blocking of mechanism and of a drawer sliding. Additionally, it is much easier to maintain it clean when slides are hidden (recommended for hospital furniture).

Unexpectedly simple measures used in this invention solve foregoing inconveniences.

The drawer according to this invention has the bilaterally retractable drawer box with the drawer faces larger than the drawer box and overlapping of a furniture body, is equipped with slides and a drawer box driver, is characterised by that it is equipped the blockade of drawer face, the drawer box driver and slides, which are placed invisibly for a user under the drawer box, enabling pulling out the drawer box in one side with simultaneous blockade of the drawer front on the other side of the furniture body. The blocked drawer face is non-removable for a user and it closes access to a space after the drawer box. The blockade of the drawer face according to this invention comprises of the hook of the blockade of the drawer face permanently attached to the inner surface of the drawer face or to the drawer face platform, of the detent of the drawer face blockade with pivot point of the detent and with the touchpoint with the opposite drawer face platform placed on the furniture body or on the furniture body platform, of the spring and of the bumper placed on the furniture body or on the furniture body platform. The blockade hook and the blockade detent of the drawer face has common touchpoint. In one embodiment the drawer box driver according to this invention is mounted on the drawer face platform under the drawer box with the pivot point of the drawer box driver and touchpoint with the bumper of the driver box driver and the spring, whereby the driver pushes against the drawer box bumper. In other embodiment, the drawer box driver according to the invention is long and it is mounted on the drawer face platform under the drawer box and it has the deflector slat mounted on the furniture body or on the furniture body platform, the touchpoint at the end opposite to the drawer box bumper, the elastic band deflecting the long driver at standby mode up it abuts on the bumper, the touchpoint with the deflector slat and on the other end - the touchpoint leaning against the drawer box bumper. In other embodiment the non moving elements of the drawer according to the invention are mounted on the furniture body, while the moving elements of the drawer - on the drawer face platform. In other embodiment the non moving elements of the drawer according to the invention are mounted on the furniture body platform mounted on the furniture body, while the moving elements - on the drawer face platform. The drawer box according to the invention preferably is situated and mounted on the drawer box platform or directly on the vertical slides. Profitably, in the drawer according to the invention, under the drawer box platform, there is the tile cover mounted enabling movement with the drawer face platform. Under the drawer box, according to the invention, there are placed two vertical slides for the drawer box or for the drawer box platform, two vertical slides for each drawer face or for the drawer face platform and at least one horizontal slide for each drawer face or for the drawer face platform. Preferably around the drawer faces, according to the invention, on their inner side there is mounted the flange, which at standby mode, during attempts of pulling out of the drawer faces, shuts out access to inner space of the furniture body, and to space between the drawer face and drawer box when the drawer is retracted. The flange can be mounted on either on the inner surface of the drawer face or on the drawer face platform. Profitably, around the drawer faces, according to the invention, there is placed the protection seal in the way that the seal, at standby mode, touches the furniture body on all its length. Preferably, under the drawer box, according to the invention, there are stretched rods of one- or two-side dragging tool with a handle, dragging tool flange and elastic band of the dragging tool, on one or both the drawer faces. On the other end of the rod there is mounted firmly the bumper with the hole for the rod of dragging tool of the other side. The handle and the flange of the dragging tool are on outer surface of the drawer faces in bilateral dragging tool, while in one-side version the handle and flange are out on one of the drawer faces and on the other side of the drawer the dragging tool is permanently mounted to the drawer face or to the drawer face platform.

The drawer according to the invention enables to draw out the same drawer box on both sides of a furniture body, to provide smooth drawing out, maintains stability of the drawer box in all planes and allows opening the drawer on one side with automatic blockade of entry to the furniture body on the other side. It is important that whole mechanism is hidden by the tile cover and the flange protecting from intentional damage on one hand, and a user from dirtying by grease applied in slides. Additionally, applying the flange and the may seal protect from flow of gases or aerosols with microorganisms or viruses. It also enables, after mounting additional equipment in a furniture body, to disinfect the drawer box inside, to cool or warm up the inside without energy losses.

At the standby mode (that is when the drawer faces 23a and 23b are pushed back into the furniture body 25), the drawer face blockade detents 3a and 3b lean at the touchpoint 10a and 10b against the drawer face platforms 7a and 7b. The drawer face blockade detent 3b leans at the touchpoint 10a against the opposite drawer face platform 7b, and the detent 3a leans at the touchpoint 10b against the drawer face platform 7a. The drawer faces platforms 7a and 7b are mounted firmly to the drawer faces 23a and 23b, respectively. Pulling one of the drawer faces, for example 23a, results in movement R1 of the drawer face platform 7a away from the touchpoint 10b of the blockade detent 3a. The detent 3a, pressed by the spring 6a, turns around the pivot point 4a up position, where the detent 3a catches on the blockade hook 8a of the drawer face 23b at the touchpoint (lOg, lOh). From this moment pulling the drawer face 23b is practically impossible, surely an adult person does not able pull the face. At the same time, the driver 9a mounted on the drawer face platform 7a moves its touchpointlOd away form the bumper 5c (mounted either on the furniture body 25 or on the furniture body platform 1) and, pressed by the spring 6d, it turns around the pivot point 4c as it leans against the bumper 5j. It is sufficient that the driver 9a leans against the drawer box bumper 5f mounted either on the drawer box 24 or on the drawer box platform 11. In this way the drawer box 24 is pulled together with the drawer face 23a. Inserting the drawer box 24, during pulling the drawer face 23a back toward to the furniture body 25, reverses the process: simultaneously the inserting drawer face platform 7a pushes away the driver 9a alongside with the bumper 5c and moving the driver away from the drawer box bumper 5f and pressing of the blockade detent 3a at the touchpoint 10b and its deflection from the blockade hook 8a, and it releases the drawer face 23 a blockade. Pulling the drawer face 23b results in the same - it blocks the drawer face 23a and pulling the drawer box 24 out. The mechanism is identical.

The embodiment with the long driver has the same mechanism of blocking of the drawer faces 23a and 23b. The long driver 12a and 12b requires the long deflector slat 14a and 14b, which actually correspond with the bumpers 5c and 5d of the short driver 9a and 9b. Pulling R1 one of the drawer faces, for example 23a, results in its movement together with the drawer face platform 7a, the touchpoint lOi of the long driver 12a is moving alongside the deflector slat 14a. It causes rotation of the long driver 12a around the pivot point 4e, stretching tension of the elastic band 13a up to touching at the bumper 5k. It allows the long driver 12a to lean against the bumper 5f of the drawer box 24. The bumper 5f is mounted on the drawer box or on the furniture body platform 1. The drawer box 24 moves with the drawer face 23a. During insertion of the drawer face 23a with the drawer box 24 into the furniture body 25, the elastic band 13a deflects the long driver 12a when the touchpoint lOi reaches standby position as the driver 12a leans against the bumper 5g and, at the same time, the long driver 12a is taken from the bumper 5f of the drawer box 24.

The ball bearing slides 2 maintain smooth movement. The drawer box 24 or the furniture body platform 1 are mounted on two vertical ball bearing slides 2a and 2b, placed as externally as possible, practically at the lateral edges of the drawer box 24. The drawer face 23a or the drawer face platform 7a moves on the vertical ball bearing slides 2c and 2g, while the drawer face 23b or the drawer face platform 7b moves on the vertical ball bearing slides 2b and 2f. The platforms, in addition, move on the horizontally mounted ball bearing slides near to the driving-blocking mechanism - the drawer face platform 7a on the slide 2d, and the drawer face platform 7b on the slide 2e. Such arrangement of the slides facilitates retracting movement and simultaneously, absolutely unexpectedly, stiffens the retracted drawer face 7a or 7b in relation to the drawer box 24; the drawer faces 7a/7b neither slope nor swirl. To achieve full functionality of the drawer according to the invention, namely when the drawer is not completely pulled back, the dragging tool 15 may be added. It comprises of two rods 19a and 19b stretched under the drawer box 24 alongside each other. On one of the rods 19a and 19b ends, hidden below the drawer box 24, there are mounted firmly the dragging tool bumpers20a and 20b. In the bumpers 20a and 20b there are holes 21a and 21b, through which there are relatively loosely slotted the rods 19a and 19b, enabling effortless movement of the rod 19a through the hole 21b in the bumper 20b and opposite - of the rod 19b in the hole 21a in the bumper 20a. The other ends of the rods 19a and 19b are brought outside the drawer faces 23a and 23b through holes sealed by the flange of the dragging tool 17a and 17b with the elastic band 18a and 18b. At the outer ends there mounted the dragging tool handles 16a and 16b. In the embodiment of the unilateral dragging tool 15, one of the rods 19a or 19b at the side which is to be without possibility of dragging the drawer, is mounted stiffly to the inner surface of the drawer face 23a or 23b or the drawer face platform 7a or 7b. Pulling the handle 16a or 16b brings the opposite drawer face 23a or 24b to the furniture body 25.

For additional covering of the drawer mechanism according to the invention, the tile cover 22a and 22b can be mounted slidably to the drawer faces 7a and 7b platforms. Their use prevents from free access to the mechanism from the bottom of the drawer box 24.

In other embodiment of the drawer according to this invention the flange 27a and 27b can be permanently mounted around the drawer face 23a and 23b in a form of a flat slat adjoined to the drawer face 23a and 23b and inserting into the furniture body 25. The flange width shall be be sufficient for hiding a wall of the drawer box 24 adjacent to the pulled drawer face 23a or 23b. The flange can be formed of the drawer face platform 7a and 7b or it can be an additional item.

In other embodiment the drawer according to the invention the seal 26a and 26b is mounted permanently around the drawer face 23a and 23b so that the seal 26a and 26b, in the standby mode, abuts the furniture body 25 on its entire length.

Combination of the flange 27a and 27b with the seal 26a and 26b provides practical airtightness in the closed drawer.

For every skilled person it is obvious to replace a drawer box with a basket or springs with elastic bands. Such small changes has no technical significance in this solution.

Each elements of the mechanism may be mounted directly on a furniture body and its parts, e.g. during manufacturing of a furniture with the mechanism. Addition of platforms of a drawer box and of a furniture body (with or without the tile cover) enables mounting of the mechanism in already existing furnitures or constructions, where a bilateral drawer is to be mounted. The drawer according to the invention can widely used. It can be applied in medical furnitures and equipments: bedside lockers in hospitals, at the contagious disease ward to dispense to patients items (medicines, food) and taking out things from an ill person without entering a patient’s room. Also in pharmacies, the medicines dispensing could be performed with the drawer according to the invention. The embodiment with a sealing with the flange and the seal can be combined with other equipments inside a furniture body, including for content disinfection. It can be used in the food service facilities at dispensing of dishes. It can be also useful where the safety issues require transferring the objects excluding personal contact: the border crossing points, banks and currency exchanger desks.
