Abstract:
This driving assistance device, which assists with driving a vehicle comprises: a communication device that can communicate over a network with other vehicles positioned in the periphery of a vehicle; an information acquisition unit that acquires the vehicle category indicating whether the other vehicle is a four- or two-wheeled type of vehicle, and movement information including information relating to the position and speed of the other vehicle on the basis of the communication performed by the communication device; a specification unit that specifies the other vehicle positioned to the rear of the vehicle on the basis of a comparison between the position information of the vehicle and the position information of the other vehicle included in the movement information; a speed comparison unit that compares the speed of the four-wheeled vehicle and the speed of the two-wheeled vehicle positioned to the rear of the vehicle on the basis of the movement information; a determination unit that, on the basis of the comparison result, determines whether there is a two-wheeled vehicle traveling at a side position of the four-wheeled vehicle and approaching the vehicle; and a notifying unit that notifies a driver of the vehicle of the determination result when it is determined that there is a two-wheeled vehicle approaching the vehicle.
