Provided is a drum-type washing machine able to improve washing performance and prevent drive system problems. The drum-type washing machine is provided with: an agitating body arranged at the rear of the drum; a drive unit able to cause rotation of the drum and of the agitating body by means of a double drive-shaft form or a single drive-shaft form, the double drive-shaft form causing the drum and the agitating body to rotate separately, with the agitating body rotating at a speed superior to that of the drum, and the single drive-shaft form causing the drum and the agitating body to rotate as a single unit, with the agitating body rotating at a speed identical to that of the drum; and a control portion for controlling the actions of the drive unit. During the washing process, before the drive unit undertakes to drive rotation of the drum and the agitating body on the basis of the double drive-shaft form (S110-S113), and there being water contained in the drum, the control portion causes the drive unit first to drive rotation of the drum and the agitating body on the basis of the single drive-shaft form (S105-S107).
