This electric motor driving apparatus is provided with: a wire connection switching unit that switches among wire connection states of a stator winding; an inverter; a control device that controls the wire connection switching unit and the inverter; and an overcurrent protection circuit (60) that prevents a current from continuing flowing in an electric motor at a value greater than a predetermined value. The overcurrent protection circuit is provided with: a first determination circuit (62) and a second determination circuit (63) that each are associated, on a one-to-one basis, with one of the wire connection states of the stator winding and that are a plurality of determination circuits determining whether or not a current flowing in the inverter has an abnormal value; a synthesis circuit (66) that synthesizes determination results in the determination circuits; and an invalidation circuit (65) that invalidates determination processes performed by some of the plurality of determination circuits and outputs, from the synthesis circuit, a determination result by the determination circuit associated with the wire connection state of the selected stator winding. When a determination result outputted from the synthesis circuit indicates that a current flowing in the inverter has an abnormal value, the control device stops the inverter.
