This electricity-generating device (1) has a magnetostrictor (10), an affixing member (7) that supports the base end of said magnetostrictor (10), a permanent magnet (6), and a loop-forming member (8) that is affixed to the affixing member (7) with the permanent magnet (6) interposed therebetween. Said electricity-generating device (1) is used with the affixing member (7) affixed to the housing or the like of a vibrating body that produces vibrations. The magnetostrictor (10) is supported by the affixing member (7) such that the front end of the magnetostrictor (10) can move with respect to the base end thereof. Although positioned so as not to interfere with the magnetostrictor (10) when the front end of the magnetostrictor (10) moves with respect to the base end thereof, the loop-forming member (8) forms a loop together with the magnetostrictor (10) and the affixing member (7) such that magnetic field lines from the permanent magnet (6) return thereto.
