Title:
ELECTRODE ARRANGEMENT FOR GENERATING FUNCTIONAL FIELD BARRIERS IN MICROSYSTEMS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2000000293
Kind Code:
A9
Abstract:
The invention relates to an electrode arrangement in a microsystem which is installed in a channel for dielectrophoretically manipulating particles in a suspension liquid. At least one microelectrode is located on a side wall of the channel in order to generate a field barrier along a reference surface, said reference surface passing through the channel at least partially. The microelectrode has a predetermined curvature or predetermined angle in relation to the direction of flow in the channel so that the reference surface has a predetermined curvature in relation to the direction of flow. According to one embodiment, the particles move in the microsystem due to the effect of the centrifugal and/or gravitational forces.
