Abstract:
An electrode catalyst layer according to the present invention is used in a polymer electrolyte fuel cell and is provided with a catalyst material, a carrier on which the catalyst material is loaded, a polymer electrolyte, and a fibrous material which contains nitrogen atoms. The carrier comprises a conductive core and a polymer layer that covers the conductive core; the polymer layer contains nitrogen atoms; the ratio of nitrogen atoms to the sum of carbon atoms, nitrogen atoms, oxygen atoms, fluorine atoms, sulfur atoms and platinum atoms in the electrode catalyst layer is 8 at% to 20 at%; and the mass ratio of the fibrous material in the electrode catalyst layer is 2% by mass to 5% by mass.
