Abstract:
[Problem] To provide, without using a platinum group element, an electrode that is capable of exerting a catalytic activity (catalytic action) similar to that of an electrode containing a platinum group element. [Solution] An electrode 10A is formed from: alloy powder 13 obtained by finely crushing an alloy molded product prepared by baking a compressed body of a metal powder mixture in which powders of at least three kinds of transition metals selected from among transition metals of various kinds are evenly mixed and dispersed; and a carbon electrode plate 14 supporting the alloy powder 13 on both surfaces thereof and having a predetermined area. At least three kinds of transition metals are selected for the metal powder mixture from among the transition metals of various kinds such that the combined work function of the work functions of the selected at least three kinds of transition metals approximates the work function of a platinum group element.
