Abstract:
As the target compression ratio increases, the ratio between the quantization step of the DC component and that of the AC component (referred to as 'DC/AC quantization ratio') is decreased, and the compression size is adjusted while keeping the DC/AC quantization ratio almost constant. Further, when the target compression ratio is larger than a predetermined ratio, the DC/AC quantization ratio is fixed at a constant value irrespective of the target compression ratio to prevent the quantization step of the DC component from being smaller than required.
